Feeling Silly
Hearing Sublime Silly Olympic Sports Here come the Summer Olympics. I always get a kick out of them. Athletics are truly a common language, and fewer things are more enjoyable than seeing simple people on a world-wide stage. Heroics, team play, brotherhood, pride, grace, courage, skill, power, agility- you can have it all here, in big slices. These Olympics will bear watching. Tensions are high across the whole world. Sadly, there could be a terrorist attack. There could also be things you'd like to see, too. Someone could set a record. Something inspiring could happen. You also may see some snobby European guy break his leg. One thing that I like about the Olympics is when they trot out some of those truly bizarre sports that you just don't see anywhere else. Some of my favorites:

NEWSMAKER: Japanese judo giants Nomura and Tani make history
Last Updated: Sun Aug 29 18:49:07 EDT 2004
They may compete in the extra-lightweight classes, but Ryoko Tani and Tadahiro Nomura are both giants of Olympic judo. Both Japanese judokas etched a place for themselves in the sport's history books with their performances on Day 1 of the Athens Games. Japan's Tani Ryoko beats Frederic Jossinet, from France, during the final of the Judo Women's extra light event at the 2004 Olympic Games. (AP Photo/Ricardo Mazalan) Tani defeated Frederique Jossinet of France in the women's 48-kilogram class Saturday, while Nomura won gold in the men's 60-kg division. With her victory, Tani became the first female to win four Olympic medals in judo. Nomura has now won an unprecedented three Olympic golds. Nicknamed "Yawara" after a famous Japanese cartoon warrior heroine, Tani burst onto the International scene in her mid-teens and went on to win a silver at the Barcelona Olympics in 1992.
