And out popped another story
I'm quite proud of myself today. In spite of being awfully busy on other things, and expecting to be even more busy next week, I made the time to sit down and write the second of the six one-a-week stories I've undertaken as a challenge from the writing group. It's not the most exciting of stories, but I don't do exciting stories just now. Wouldn't fit my theme. The day the sky didn't fall With a frightful shriek and clatter a hen pheasant rushed across the paddock, neck stretched up as far as it would go and, on reaching the mesh fence bordering my garden, ducked, leapt, and landed safely on the lawn, feathered petticoats all a'fluster.

Boy Scout Battle Pits Gay Activists vs. Minority Kid
July 6, 2000 By Heather Mac Donald The Supreme Court ruled last week that the government can’t force openly gay scoutmasters on the Boy Scouts in violation of the Scouts’ moral code. But the battle is hardly over. Expect gayrights activists to intensify the pressure on corporations, United Ways and other voluntary organizations to withhold the tens of millions of dollars they annually contribute to scouting, and to sue public entities that sponsor the Scouts for discriminating against homosexuals. The victims of this campaign will be poor, minority children. That’s because charitable dollars donated to the Scouts go mostly to the inner city. Suburban Scout troops are selfsupporting; they raise their expenses through Christmas tree sales, bake sales and other means. Suburban parents can afford to buy their sons Scout uniforms, equipment and camp tuition. Innercity families have a harder time. When Fran Harty, a scoutmaster in the mostly white southern end of Staten Island, N.Y., takes his troop camping in Delaware, 10 fathers show up in cars. Scouts in Harlem take the bus. Corporate donations defray part of the costs of uniforms and camp fees, though in keeping with the Scout ethic of selfreliance and thrift, nothing is given away. “We ask them to earn their way to camp,” explains Jim Wilson, executive director of Atlanta’s Operation First Class, a program targeted at inner-city boys. Scouts have to show mastery of the Scout Oath and Law, or make progress towards Tenderfoot rank, before they are given handbooks or help with uniforms.

108. Homeschooling Learning Journal
Teaches reading, writing and comprehension in a simple 2030 minute daily lesson.
http://www.amerikanpie.com/Homeschooling.htm
Reading and writing are the building blocks of education. The Learning Journal teaches reading, writing, and comprehension in a simple 20-30 minute daily lesson. A parent's involvement is crucial to any child's learning process. The Learning Journal works on the basic concept of writing letters, words, and sentences. Reading and understanding what has been written completes the circle of learning. Compliments any homeschooling program. Education has become one of our nation's foremost concerns. Learn what skills your child should be mastering in grades K-3 and how you as a parent can see that they are learning the concepts that will carry them to higher education. Jump start your homeschooling program. Culleen Glover's 35 years of K-3 teaching experience created this journal to help her grandson Robert with his reading and writing. Homeschooling is an important suppliment to those attending a regular school. All 50 states allow homeschooling. Some states are more stringent than others about homeschooling and may require that the homeschooling parent be a certified teacher or at least college-educated. Other states are more lax concerning homeschooling; not even asking that homeschooling parents have any training or education at all. Homeschooling can be a much needed supplement to those attending school. A variety of materials and resources are important to keep homeschooling fun and interesting. Homeschooling is just another word for an involved parent; whether the child's homeschooling is in addition to a public school curriculum or not.

    Whitney Gallien Hedges
lost her wings at 7:40 PM
blah Whitney Gallien Hedges lost her wings at 7:39 PM Monday, June 30, 2003 Ah, the dreaded query letter. How can something so short be such a pain in the ass to write? Well, it's only incredibly important, after all. *grin* I mean, if an agent doesn't like your query letter, then you can forget about him or her ever asking to see your proposal/manuscript. It has to be short (preferably a page, no more than a page and a half). It has to "sell" your idea to the agent without relying on cliches, generalities, or an overabundance of self-promotion. So no "This book will sell millions, I promise!" lol I promise nothing. I'm developing a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach anyway. Not a good omen this early in the game. But anyway, it's written. I think. It's a little long (page and a half), but I had to set it up just right. I think it's good. I mean, I like it, and I'm very critical of my own stuff. I usually end up semi-loathing something I've written. So I take it as a good sign that I like this. Without further ado.... My Query Letter Is one of the most critically acclaimed independent music artists of our time a fraud...or a genius?
