Geography
Western Jordan has essentially a Mediterranean climate with a hot, dry summer, a cool, wet winter and two short transitional seasons. However, about 75% of the country can be described as having a desert climate with less than 200 mm. of rain annually. Jordan can be divided into three main geographic and climatic areas: the Jordan Valley, the Mountain Heights Plateau, and the eastern desert, or Badia region.
The Jordan Valley Great Rift Valley of Africa, which extends down from southern Turkey through Lebanon and Syria to the salty depression of the Dead Sea, where it continues south through Aqaba and the Red Sea to eastern Africa. This fissure was created 20 million years ago by shifting tectonic plates. The northern segment of the Jordan Valley , known in Arabic as the Ghor Jordan River rises from several sources, mainly the Anti-Lebanon Mountains in Syria, and flows down into Lake Tiberias (the Sea of Galilee), 212 meters below sea level. It then drains into the Dead Sea which, at 407 meters below sea level, is the lowest point on earth. The river is between 20 and 30 meters wide near its endpoint. Its flow has been much reduced and its salinity increased because significant amounts have been diverted for irrigational uses. Several degrees warmer than the rest of the country, its year-round agricultural climate, fertile soils, higher winter rainfall and extensive summer irrigation have made the

JORDAN GEOGRAPHY Jordan covers an area of about 37square miles. It is bordered by Syria to the north, Iraq and Saudi Arabia on the east, Saudia Arabia on the south and Israel on the west. The central spine of the country, the highland plateau and hilly region that runs from north to south, includes the main cities and towns, such as Amman, Irbid, Jerash, Madaba and Kerak. To the west, the Great Rift Valley runs the entire length of the country, and includes the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, the Wadi Araba and the Aqaba area around the Gulf of Aqaba and the Red Sea. The eastern desert area is a semi-arid steppe which receives little rainfall. Jordan can be divided into four major regions; Each of these distinct geographical zones varies considerably in climate, water resources, habitation and ecology: The Eastern Heights or Plateau
The Jordan Valley
The Eastern Desert
The Wadi Arabah Other subject headings include: History
Weather
Flora and Fauna
Food
Religion
Pictures Plateau The Eastern Heights or Plateau runs from the Yarmouk river and the Syrian Border in the north and declines in altitude as it extends south. The plateau can be divided into zones on the basis of the major wadis which dissect it (east to west), with the major wadis being (from north to south) Wadi Yarmouk, Wadi Zarqa, Wadi Mujib, Wadi Kerak, Wadi Hasa, and then a series of lesser wadis which flow into the Wadi Arabah, which include the Wadi Dana and Wadi Es Shaqir which are the eastern portion of the Feinan wadi system. The traditional names of sections of the plateau stem from biblical texts and are often referred to as Ammon, Moab, Edom. The area referred to as Ammon, is the area of the plateau north of the Wadi Mujib. The area of Moab is that which lies between the Wadi Mujib and the Wadi Hasa. The area of Edom is the area south of the Wadi Hasa.

GEOGRAPHY
The territory of Jordan covers about 91,880 square kilometers. Until 1988, when King Hussein relinquished Jordan's claim to the West Bank, that area was considered part of Jordan, although only officially recognized as such by Britain and Pakistan. At that time the West Bankwhich encompasses about 5,880 square kilometershad been under Israeli occupation since the June 1967 War between Israel and the states of Egypt, Jordan, and Syria. Jordan is landlocked except at its southern extremity, where nearly twenty-six kilometers of shoreline along the Gulf of Aqaba provide access to the Red Sea. A great north-south geological rift, forming the depression of Lake Tiberias (Sea of Galilee), the Jordan Valley, and the Dead Sea, is the dominant topographical feature. Data as of December 1989

Jordan - Geography
By Ekaterina Zhdanova-Redman Jordan is not a very big country. It has lots of interesting places, though. Most of Jordan's land is desert. Deserts are places where the weather is very dry and hot. Usually, there aren't many plants in deserts. Deserts are usually very sandy places. Almost three-fourths of Jordan's land is deserts. Most of these deserts are in central and east Jordan. The most famous desert in Jordan is called the Rum Desert. There you would find the beautiful Wadi Rum landscape. This landscape is filled with sandstone mountains.
The land in very western Jordan isn't desert. That's because there is a river along Jordan's western border. The Jordan River is very old. You can read about the Jordan River in many old books. In fact, the Jordan River is mentioned several times in the Christian Bible. Unlike the deserts in east Jordan, the land around the Jordan River has many plants. The Jordan River flows south into a place with a strange name.
This place is a sea. The sea is at the lowest point on the earth. The sea is surrounded by land. Water from the sea has no place to flow, so it evaporates. What is evaporation? When water on the ground gets warm, the water breaks up into tiny particles. These tiny particles are so small, you can't see them. These particles are very light, so they rise into the air.

    Jordan - Boundaries
Jordan Except for small sections of the borders with Israel and Syria, Jordan's international boundaries do not follow well-defined natural features of the terrain. The country's boundaries were established by various international agreements, and, with the obvious exception of the border with Israel, none was in dispute in early 1989. The de jure border with Israel is based on the Armistice line agreed on in April 1949 by Israel and what was then Transjordan, following negotiations held under the auspices of a United Nations (UN) mediator. In general, the border represents the battle positions held by Transjordanian and Israeli forces when a ceasefire went into effect and has no relation to economic or administrative factors. Until the Israeli occupation of the West Bank that occurred during the June 1967 War (also known as the SixDay War), the demarcation line divided the city of Jerusalem, with Jordan holding the Old City and most of the holy places.

    Sexual relationships

If you are traveling to this country, you may be interested in sexual relationships with locals, and no, I do not mean the services of prostitutes or other commercial providers. While you can meet citizen interested in sex accidentally, the chances of success are not particularly high if you are there only for a limited period of time (as I said: no prostitutes). On the other hand, they often are sexually attracted to foreign people. For young women, especially in the big cities, it is chic to have a Western boyfriend. So, there must be a trick to overcome the time-consuming "accidental", and to link more effectively the sexual interests of foreign visitors with those of locals. Try the Internet. Or, more to the point: try www.AdultfriendsFinder.com . The service lists a good number of residents explicitly interested in non-commercial sexual relationships. While there are more males on the search than females, there are indeed an amazing number of women using the service. It is truly amazing how popular www.AdultfriendsFinder.com
