The Irish Jewish Museum is a small museum in Dublin dedicated to the history of the Irish Jewish community. The museum was opened in June 1985 by Chaim Herzog who was then president of Israel and was born in Ireland . The museum is in a former Synagogue built in 1917 in two adjoining terraced houses, the surrounding area, known as Portobello , was previously a Jewish area, however, the large scale emmigration that affected Ireland in the 1950s had a particularly strong affect on the Jewish population; there was also a migration to the suburbs and Dublin's main synagogue is now in Terenure . The synagogue is preserved, there are also artifacts on display and the museum houses geneological records. In 2005 the museum was sprayed a number of time with anti-semitic slogans and the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dermot Ahern , visited the museum to show his sympathy and to express his hope that the attacks were the responsibility of a very small group of people who would soon be brought to justice. edit

The Jewish Museum in the Camden Town district on the northern fringes of central London England is one of two Jewish museums in London. It was founded in 1932 and was initially based in the Jewish communal headquarters in Bloomsbury . It moved to Camden Town in 1995. It is operated by the same charitable trust as the Jewish Museum (Finchley) , in the north London suburbs. The Camden Town museum claims to have one of the world's finest collections of Jewish ceremonial art. It also has exhibitions recounting the history of Jewish life in England, supported by a diverse collection of objects. There are also collections of paintings prints and drawings, and a archive of photographs, which consists mainly of black and white photographs from the 1900s to the 1940s. edit

Located on East End Road in Finchley is the Jewish Museum Finchley. One of two sites in London the collection moved here from its home in Woburn House in 1995 and to its other site in Camden. Though not as large as its Camden site, the Jewish Museum Finchley holds a wealth of information and regularly holds temporary exhibitions. The Jewish Museum Finchley chronicles the two major migrations of the Jewish people to England- the first from Eastern Europe at the turn of the twentieth century and the second from Germany and its neighbouring countries before the start of WWII. The absorbing exhibits give an insight into the life of immigrants beginning a new life in England. Items include an original Yiddish gramophone record. There are also insights into life in a Jewish sweatshop and a sewing workshop. The moving Holocaust Education Gallery tells the story of Leon Greenman- an English Jew who was incarcerated in Auschwitz and was the only member of his family to survive. Though displayed with sensitivity and presented informatively, this display tells a humbling and amazing story. The Jewish Museum Finchley has volunteers on hand to answer questions and give information about the exhibits. For more information and visiting info visit the official site:

Adults £3.25, children and concessions £2.50, family £8.00 Mon-Thurs: 10.30am - 4pm; Sun: 10.30 - 5.00 pm; Jewish holidays closed. LOCATED almost a mile outside the cental core of the city this museum tells the story of Manchester Jewry and the people associated with it whilst also putting on special events and exhibitions. The building was built as the Spanish and Portuguese Synagogue in the Moorish style in 1874 by the Manchester Jewish architect Edward Salomans. The tours around the building for non-Jewish visitors are interesting for the insight they give into the religion. Notable members of the local Jewish community have included Chaim Weizmann, first president of Israel who was resident in Manchester for many years and the writers Jack Rosenthal, Howard Jacobson and Maise Mosco. Just down the road the first Marks and Spencers store opened in the 1890s. A broader picture of the develoment of the community can be gained by joining the regular heritage walks.
