These young men for the most part, settled on the Gaspé Coast and married local girls, establishing roots in Canada. Today, if one takes a look at any telephone directory it will be difficult to find one community which does not contain at least one Channel Island name. Likewise, other Channel Islanders came to work for Robin's in Nova Scotia and from there moved up to Cheticamp, NB and other areas on the Bay of Chaleur.
For many years there had been talk of founding a Gaspésian Channel Island Society. In 1988 four interested persons began the work on what is now the "Gaspésian Channel Islands Society" with over 300 members from across Canada, USA and overseas.

Our "Channel Islands' Connection Room" at the Gaspésian British Heritage Centre in New Richmond, Québec, is dedicated to the collection of artifacts, documents and other information relative to the history of the early settlers from our Islands on the Gaspé Coast and is well worth a visit. The room will be moved to larger quarters as the collection grows. Anyone having articles to either lend or donate please contact Diane Sawyer. The genealogical section is growing rapidly and is available for research.
Our Annual General Meeting, held in either of July or August of each year, Includes: registration and get together presentations, photo collections of trips to the Islands, social evening, cocktail reception speeches and the Annual Meeting . New Jersey is a small, yet populous, northeastern state surrounded by water on three sides. Its four main land regions, the Atlantic Coastal Plain, Piedmont, New England Upland, and Appalachian Ridge and Valley Region, bring a variety of environments to the state. Due to its location on the Atlantic Ocean, the climate is fairly moderate. New Jersey is the 5th smallest state, covering 8,722 square miles (22,589 sq km), or 0.25% of the total land in the United States. It is bordered by New York on the north, Delaware Bay on the south, the Atlantic Ocean on the south and east, and Delaware Bay and Pennsylvania on the west. Based on the 2000 census, New Jersey had a population of 8,414,350 ranking 9th among the 50 states. The population density of 1,134 persons per square mile (438 persons per sq km) is the highest in the country, well above the national average of 77 persons per square mile (30 persons per sq km). The four largest cities in New Jersey are Newark (273,546 residents), Jersey City (240,055 residents), Paterson (149,222 residents), and Elizabeth (120,568 residents).

Introduction to New Jersey, The Garden State Capital Trenton "New Jersey is an aggressively industrial state, and has been throughout U.S. history. As far back as 1791, when Alexander Hamilton chose the Great Falls of the Passaic River as the site of a model factory town, industry began to shape the state. Then, throughout the 19th century, New Jersey saw transportation feed industry, as canals, railroads, roads, and ports were built. And on into the 20th century, as its highway and transportation systems improved, it has continued to reign as one of the leading industrial states in the country.
