The Witnesses believe that the event has already commenced; they also believe the battle of Armageddon is imminent and that it will be followed by a millennial period when repentant sinners will have a second chance for salvation. The Witnesses base their teaching on the Bible. They have no churches but meet in buildings that are always named Kingdom Hall. There are no official ministers because all Jehovah's Witnesses are considered ministers of the gospel. Their views are circulated in the Watchtower

    Founder:
Charles T. Russell The following information has been provided by former members: Description: The Watchtower Bible & Tract Society got its start in 1879 as an apocalyptic group waiting for the end of the world in 1914. Christ had supposedly returned in 1874 and a 40-year harvest of the "saints" began. As the date disappointed, later dates were set and the end was calculated to be 1975. Today the Watchtower is run by a Governing Body and boasts over 5 million, rapidly increasing in third world countries. Heavy authoritarianism and deception, as well as shunning. Behaviors: Members cannot read anything critical about the group or engage the internet on non-approved sites. They cannot talk to ex-members, take blood transfusions, go to war, or celebrate holidays. Independent thought heavily discouraged. Must report others who don't comply. College discouraged. Information: Spying by the elders and even the rank-and-file is encouraged, if not required.

    The Plain Truth about
    the Jehovah's Witnesses
In 1870, at the age of eighteen, an ex- Congregationalist by the name of Charles Taze Russell started a Bible class in Pittsburgh. In 1876, the class elected Russell as their Pastor. He founded the "Herald of the Morning" in 1879, which eventually developed into what is known today as "The Watchtower Announcing Jehovah's Kingdom." Today this publication has grown to over seventeen million copies per month in over one hundred languages. In 1884, Russell incorporated the "Zion's Watch Tower Tract Society" at Pittsburgh. Today this organization has branches in over one hundred countries, and it has missionary works in over two hundred and fifty. With over one-half million volunteer workers, the Jehovah's Witnesses have become a serious threat to Bible believers throughout the world. Russell died in 1916, and Judge J.F. Rutherford took over the Society's leadership. It was under Rutherford's leadership that the group took the name "Jehovah's Witnesses," and Society headquarters moved to Brooklyn. Rutherford died in 1942, and Nathan Knorr took control and boosted the membership to over two million. In 1961, the Society published its own "translation" of the scriptures, called "The New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures." Knorr died in 1977. As of 1996, the president of the Watchtower Society was Milton Henschel.

    Jehovah’s Witnesses
Encyclopedia Article Jehovah’s Witnesses , Christian religious group, founded in 1872 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, by the American clergyman Charles Taze Russell, with congregations in nearly all countries. Members of the group originally were known by the popular name of Russellites. The legal governing body of Jehovah's Witnesses is the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania, incorporated in 1884. European members belong to the affiliated International Bible Students Association, incorporated in London in 1914. International headquarters is in Brooklyn, New York. Members of the group believe in the second coming of Christ; they regard themselves as practitioners of primitive Christianity and consider each Witness a minister. Jehovah's Witnesses stress Bible study and absolute obedience to biblical precepts. The group's teachings are spread primarily by members who preach from door to door and distribute literature to passersby on street corners. Bible study classes frequently are conducted in private homes. The meeting places of Jehovah's Witnesses are called Kingdom Halls.

Distribution Source : ArriveNet Editorials Date : Friday - July 15, 2005 Dogpatch (ArriveNet Editorials - Jul 15, 2005) When individuals leave the Watchtower organization for conscience reasons, it is evidence that God is shepherding and protecting the flock by doing a sifting work. When people leave another Christian religion it is evidence that the religion is morally corrupt and unable or unwilling to provide spiritually for their members.
When a Christian from another denomination lies, he is acting according to his own disposition being from the father of the lie, Satan. When a Jehovah's Witness lies, he is proving his loyalty to Jehovah and fulfilling his sacred obligation to engage in spiritual warfare.
During times of rapid growth the WT organization claims God's approval for the harvest. During times of little or negative growth, the organization prints that this is evidence that the end is near because it appears that the harvest work is almost over.

Ross seized and detained Jason Scott for the purpose of forcing Scott to recant his faith-based beliefs. A Catholic Critique of Jehovah's Witnesses
[Note: This text is in process of being re-edited since some browsers have problems with the formatting. This should be completed soon. Thank you for your patience.]
    Introduction
Originally published in 1963 and distributed by the Knights of Columbus, this critique has unfortunately long been out of print. The author’s intended audience are not the Witnesses themselves but those whom they seek to convert. The author explains: In what follows we shall attempt to investigate the more outstanding pecularities of the Witnesses’ creed….We would emphasize our purpose in doing this, which is not to ridicule or make light of anyone’s beliefs simply because they are not our beliefs. What has prompted this analysis is the Witnesses’ own insistence on their beliefs as truths which contradict our beliefs and are incompatible with them. We shall approach the Witnesses’ creed from the standpoint of those elements in it which are avowedly destructive of the Judeo-Christian tradition in which we stand. In doing so, we hope to do a service not merely for those of the Catholic religion but also for all who share the concern of the Catholic Church for the fundamental doctrines and values of the Christianity which has molded our society…. If our judgments have sounded harsh, we insist that we have intended no ridicule for honestly held beliefs as such. Sincerity in belief is an admirable quality. Respect for sincerity, however, may not ever blind us to the duty of service to the truth, and of the defense of our own cherished heritage. We have addressed ourselves far less to the Witnesses themselves than to those who have been the targets of their propagandizing.
