Introduction
This web page is about our first family holiday spent in Jamaica in March 2000.
We stayed at the Trelawny Beach and Fun Resort Hotel on the north coast of Jamaica. But first.....
Jamaica, a brief overview.
Jamaica is the third largest island in the Caribbean.
It is about 90 miles south of Cuba and about 600 miles south of Florida.
The island is approximately 146 miles long with widths varying from 22 and 51 miles.
Jamaica is a very mountainous island with the highest point being the Blue Mountain Peak standing at 7402 feet.
The climate is tropical, with average temperatures between 80°F - 90°F, at
higher altitudes the temperature may be lower.
The first known inhabitants of Jamaica were the Arawak Indians who came from South America.
The Arawaks called the island Xaymaca, which translates to "The land of wood
and water". Christopher Columbus "Discovered" Jamaica on May 5th 1494. The Spanish enslaved the Arawaks, who were eventually wiped out, through slavery, ill treatment, common european ailments and diseases.
Slaves from Africa were imported by the Spanish in 1517. In 1655 the English

WHAT IS "JACISERA"?
JACISERA is the acronym for "JAmaica CIvil SERvice Association". Note the capital letters, if you put them together, up comes the Acronym. The next time, therefore, when you see "JACISERA", it is, but our own"JAMAICA CIVIL SERVICE ASSOCIATION"
CREST
The Crest of the Association was designed in 1924 by the late Frank Cundall, Esq., O.B.E., Secretary and Librarian of the Institute of Jamaica (1891 to 1937).
On the field is a Cross of St. George painted with Pineapples as is the Coat of Arms of Jamaica. In the four corners are a quill, spade, caduceus and baton, representing respectively - Administration, Agricultural Service, Medical Service and Police.
In the centre is a monogram consisting of the initials of the name of the Association (J.C.S.A.). Around this monogram is the motto "Duro de Cortice Fructus Quam Dulcis' (How sweet the fruit the hard rind yields) - a similar motto to that found on the Seal originally granted by Charles II to Jamaica.

KINGSTON, Jamaica (CNN) Former Haitian President Jean-Bertrand Aristide is to travel to Jamaica early next week, Jamaican Prime Minister P.J. Patterson has said. Aristide is currently in the Central African Republic, where he fled after resigning and leaving his turbulent country February 29 in the face of an advancing rebel insurgency. Aristide has said he was abducted by the United States and forced to leave, a charge Washington has vehemently denied. Patterson said Aristide will come to Jamaica to see his children. "Mr. Aristide has expressed a wish to return temporarily to the Caribbean with his wife and to be reunited with their two young children who are currently in the United States," said a statement on Patterson's Web site.

Wata Amateur Tennis Championships THERE WERE upsets galore as the Wata Amateur Tennis Championship, the second event of the five tournament Trafalgar points series, came to a close on Sunday at the Liguanea Club, New Kingston. The tournament saw new champions crowned in every category played, causing a leap-frog effect in the rankings held coming into the tournament. The men's Class One category saw a focused Dwayne Pagon rebound from a disappointing quarter-final exit in the previous Trafalgar tournament to make a meal of the 16th ranked Kristofer Martin 6-1, 6-1 to lift the title. Pagon had experienced a bit of sweet revenge when he knocked off No. 2 ranked Tyler Chin in the semi-finals. In Class Two, No. 6 seed Andrew Lowe battled from a set down to score a satisfying 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 upset over the top ranked Douglas Kong. Lowe had previously upstaged No. 5 seeded Allan McNab in the semi-finals. The women's Open category saw top junior Danielle Monteith eliminate Raquel Bryan 6-3, 6-3. The men's Class Three category saw the unseeded Arnold Douglas emerge victorious as he got by Ruddy Chin 7-6, 6-3.
