Institute Washington, D.C. 20 Feb. 2003 Questions and Answers with NATO Secretary General Lord Lord Robertson Lord Robertson: Thanks. Well, you've got my speech. Some of you may have had the answers to the Questions that I've given, so I think it would be a punishment for you to get another statement or speech, so I'll simply take Questions. Question: How real is the threat to Turkey from Iraq, because reports from the region say that Saddam's troops are poorly equipped, poorly disciplined, hungry? Lord Robertson: The military commanders who report to the NATO Council, the chairman of the military committee, General Kujat, and the supreme allied commander-Europe, General Jones, have both reported in some detail to the NATO Council on what they believe the threat to be. Surface-to-surface missiles were deployed by Iraq to the border with Kuwait in the last two weeks. I don't think they exist anymore, but it clearly has displayed an intent by Iraq to perhaps get involved in preemptive strikes. But although I can't disclose classified information in terms of the threat to the north, it is believed by our military advisers to be real and to be imminent, and therefore Turkey made its request in that context.

A Very Crabby Old Lady
For more nights in a row than Crabby Old Lady can count - six or seven or so - she has been wakened in the middle of the night at least once, and on one occasion three times, by drunken youths who have commandeered the stoop of her house as a party venue, expressing their freedom of speech at decibals more commonly heard at a rock concert. The most recent, about two hours ago, occurred when Crabby was wakened by a crash against her front gate followed by maniacal laugher. Upon investigation, Crabby found that a drunk young woman had apparently fallen against the gate and was now regaling someone on her cell phone about her inability to stop laughing - interspersed with more screeching laughter.

WASHINGTON (CNN) A three-star Marine general who said it was "fun to shoot some people" should have chosen his words more carefully, the Marine Corps commandant said Thursday. Lt. Gen. James Mattis, who commanded Marine expeditions in Afghanistan and Iraq, made the comments Tuesday during a panel discussion in San Diego, California. "Actually it's quite fun to fight them, you know. It's a hell of a hoot," Mattis said, prompting laughter from some military members in the audience. "It's fun to shoot some people. I'll be right up there with you. I like brawling. "You go into Afghanistan, you got guys who slap women around for five years because they didn't wear a veil," Mattis said. "You know, guys like that ain't got no manhood left anyway. So it's a hell of a lot of fun to shoot them."

INVENTOR'S EXPOSITION PLANNED!
Last night, during his speech at a banquet to raise funds for scientific research, Mayor Trumble announced plans to create a new Inventor's Exposition. The Exposition will be housed at the Millsberry Town Hall , after celebrating its grand opening on September 29. Anyone who attends the opening festivities will have the opportunity to earn a free prize. Mayor Trumble also hinted that there would be a very special Mystery Guest, who will bring his own invention for all to see!
"The Expo will showcase humankind's greatest inventions, presented in their most basic forms by Millsberry's own students," Mayor Trumble told the Millsberry Gazette . "There are so many items that we use every day without ever thinking of where they came from. This Expo will help to demonstrate the origins of many inventions that we take for granted. I've appointed Ms. Britt-Mari Larssen as the curator of the Expo. She'll be a wonderful guide to this fun and educational exhibit."
The planned exhibit consists of student-designed displays, which recreate some of the world's most important inventions and how they work. Ms. Larssen hopes that seeing complex ideas simplified will make them easier to understand.

These basic principles provide general guidance that can help grantseekers increase their chances for a successful application with any foundation. Establish Your Objectives Research Potential Funders Verify Available Funding Review Successful Applications ... Keep Your Chin Up Establish Your Objectives Successful grantseekers realize that having a clear vision of measurable objectives is essential to achieving conceptual goals. It is important to know how your objectives and goals fit in with the philosophy and mission of your particular agency. Establish tangible, concrete objectives before starting any grant application process. Make sure your objectives are realistic and can be achieved within a specified timeframe. Identify as many details as you can about your overall goals. Prepare a five-year plan to document your strategy for reaching those goals. This will help you articulate your specific needs. Grantseekers commonly make the mistake of planning for only the immediate future (or not planning at all).
