White Meat or Dark
Eating is near and dear, I think, to everyone. So near and dear that we seldom ponder our food schticks. Frankly, we'd rather be eating than thinking! The folks who do, well, they tend to get tangled in life and death and vegetarianism. But the doctor is a professional and all curiosities about the body whether human or animal, whether muscular, brain, or blood are curious to him, even if he's about to sit down to a juicy lunch. "Do you want some more juice on it?" Yeah, we're not talking Kool Aid. Juicy is a great word for describing expertly cooked meat. It means there's still blood in it. It ain't dried out like hard tack. But that sort of straight talk ruffles feathers around the dinner table. Sadly, many folks would rather limit their imagination of meat to the supermarket freezer, rather than open it to creatures who often star in Sesame Street visits to a farm. Okay, we can cut them some slack, but in a singular topic that appalls the doctor ignorance of physiognomy. My informal surveys over the past couple years (see forthcoming fluchschrift) show that people don't understand chicken anatomy. Sure, they like white meat. Oh, yeah, everyone wants white meat. Gimme that white meat. I tasted it and I want it. We grow our f$cking chickens' tits to gargantuan proportions, and ship the unwanted, unloved, uneaten dark meat off to the Caribbean.

Milton concluded his six years of quiet study with a remarkable eighteen-month tour to various centers of European antiquity and intellectual life, notably Italy. Early in his tour, in Paris in April 1638, he was able to meet one of his great intellectual heroes, the Dutch legal theorist Hugo Grotius, exiled from Holland but then serving as the Swedish ambassador to France. Among Grotius's Latin writings were two significant for Milton's own later poetry, the drama Adamus Exsul (1601) and the poem Christus patiens (published 1619). (The library's earliest edition of Milton's third great neo-Latin poetic influence, with Buchanan and Grotius, Marco Girolamo Vida's Christiad , first published in 1535, dates only from 1731, and was not included in this exhibit.)

    Culture and Education
Estonian culture has been well represented in Italy, especially in the fields of music and fine arts. Culture-loving Italians know composers Arvo P¤rt and Erkki-Sven T¼¼r, conductor Tµnu Kaljuste, as well as painter Jaan Toomik. The concerts of Estonian grand masters are always sold out and reviews of exhibitions are positive. Especially well known and popular among the Italians is Arvo P¤rt.
In Estonian theatres, the plays of Italian authors Carlo Goldoni, Carlo Gozzi, Eduardo De Filippo, Dario Fo, Luigi Lunari, Luigi Pirandello, and Luchino Visconti have been played in the recent years.
The Estonian designers and stylists, who have been shown in Milan, Rome and Florence, are waiting to be discovered worldwide. Estonian restorers have a great opportunity to study at different Italian restoration schools.
In 1998, the Dante Alighieri Society in Estonia was re-established, assembling those interested in the Italian language and culture. The membership includes academics, artists, businessmen and politicians. The society deals with the arranging of language courses and has also organised concerts, meetings and conferences.
In March 2000, a group of Italians established the Italian-Estonian Friendship Society (Centro d'Amicizia Italia-Estonia). The President of the society is lawyer Ambrogio Pompeo and the Secretary General is Constantino Moretti.
