Last update: September 15, 2005 This list is updated periodically as new information accumulates. Mediamakers should contact festivals directly with any questions about deadlines or submission guidelines. Unless an appropriate foreign language version is available, most European festivals require an English-language transcription in addition to a PAL cassette. Some request translations. On May 19, 2002 a group of continental festivals dedicated to archaeology pledged to form the European Federation of Film Festivals on Archaeology and Cultural Heritage (FEDARCINE). Its website ( www.fedarcine.com ) offers supplementary background for many of the events listed below and about members whose next programs may not yet have been announced.

    MUSEUM AND HERITAGE STUDIES
Debating the Archaeological Heritage . London: Duckworth. pp. 150.(2000.) This book provides an introduction to contemporary debates surrounding the rival claims of the competing interest groups throughout the world that lay claim to the material remains of the past. It deals with defining, owning, protecting, managing, interpreting and experiencing the archaeological heritage It calls for greater communication and co-operation between archaeologists and other interest groups, and urges archaeologists to increase the involvement of local people in the culturally valuable and vulnerable material remains of the past.

Changes [Sep 16, 2005]: bookcrossing.com in... Heritage: a subject... Rome graffiti and a... Home ... MORE Find Pages 6th June Just back from an interesting look at a phenomenon that is yet another form of contemporary archaeology. Take a look at http://www.bookcrossing.com and you'll see what I mean... ...it's "Catch and Release" with literary works in a keep-net. The idea being that members liberate books they have read, anywhere, in the hope that others will pick them up, log their history, and send them again on their way... The books - marked "Free take me!" - have an individual number already registered online in a cyber bookshelf. The idea is that finders go to the site, and log the book. Then move it on. There are some 360,000 members worldwide, and "bookcrossing" is now a word in the dictionary, as noted on its Webby-award winning site "bookcrossing n. the practice of leaving a book in a public place to be picked up and read by others, who then do likewise."
