Israel GEOGRAPHY Israel is located at the eastern end of the Mediterranean Sea. It is bounded on the north by Lebanon, on the northeast by Syria, on the east and southeast by Jordan, on the southwest by Egypt, and on the west by the Mediterranean Sea . Before June 1967, the area composing Israel (resulting from the armistice lines of 1949 and 1950) was about 20,700 square kilometers, which included 445 square kilometers of inland water. Thus Israel was roughly the size of the state of New Jersey, stretching 424 kilometers from north to south. Its width ranged from 114 kilometers to, at its narrowest point, 10 kilometers. The area added to Israel after the June 1967 War, consisting of occupied territories (the West Banksee Glossaryand the Gaza Strip) and annexed territories (East Jerusalem and the Golan Heights) totaled an additional 7,477 square kilometers. The areas comprised the West Bank, 5,879 kilometers; the Gaza Strip, 378; East Jerusalem, 70; and the Golan Heights, 1,150. Data as of December 1988 Israel - TABLE OF CONTENTS

Israel The country is divided into four regions: the coastal plain, the central hills, the Jordan Rift Valley, and the Negev Desert. The Mediterranean coastal plain stretches from the Lebanese border in the north to Gaza in the south, interrupted only by Cape Carmel at Haifa Bay. It is about forty kilometers wide at Gaza and narrows toward the north to about five kilometers at the Lebanese border. The region is fertile and humid (historically malarial) and is known for its citrus and viniculture. The plain is traversed by several short streams, of which only two, the Yarqon and Qishon, have permanent water flows. East of the coastal plain lies the central highland region. In the north of this region lie the mountains and hills of Upper Galilee and Lower Galilee; farther to the south are the Samarian Hills with numerous small, fertile valleys; and south of Jerusalem are the mainly barren hills of Judea. The central highlands average 610 meters in height and reach their highest elevation at Mount Meron, at 1,208 meters, in Galilee near Zefat (Safad). Several valleys cut across the highlands roughly from east to west; the largest is the Yizreel or Jezreel Valley (also known as the Plain of Esdraelon), which stretches forty-eight kilometers from Haifa southeast to the valley of the Jordan River, and is nineteen kilometers across at its widest point.

    Sexual relationships

If you are traveling to this country, you may be interested in sexual relationships with locals, and no, I do not mean the services of prostitutes or other commercial providers. While you can meet citizen interested in sex accidentally, the chances of success are not particularly high if you are there only for a limited period of time (as I said: no prostitutes). On the other hand, they often are sexually attracted to foreign people. For young women, especially in the big cities, it is chic to have a Western boyfriend. So, there must be a trick to overcome the time-consuming "accidental", and to link more effectively the sexual interests of foreign visitors with those of locals. Try the Internet. Or, more to the point: try www.AdultfriendsFinder.com . The service lists a good number of residents explicitly interested in non-commercial sexual relationships. While there are more males on the search than females, there are indeed an amazing number of women using the service. It is truly amazing how popular www.AdultfriendsFinder.com

    Israel's geography - an overview
By Susan Jones Although Israel is a tiny nation (approx. 150 X 50 miles, about the size of New Jersey) it has the world's fourth most powerful army, has the third largest press corps in the world, ranks third in the world in high tech industries, and ranks second in health care in the world. The Jerusalem Post, Israel's only daily newspaper in English, is ranked sixth in the world in circulation. The original promise of Genesis 15 is estimated to be a stretch of land about 300,000 square miles, about 12 times the size of Great Britain and Ireland today. This contrasts strongly with the borders of the modern State of Israel. Israel is a mountainous land. Running through the land is a deep gash in the earth, known as the Jordan Valley (north of the Dead Sea) and the Aravah Valley (south of the Dead Sea). They are the same valley and are part of the great Syrian-African Rift Valley. It extends over 4,000 miles from the mountains of Turkey, through Syria, Lebanon (the Beka'a Valley), Israel, the Red Sea, into Africa as far as Tanzania. At the Sea of Galilee, the Jordan Valley is 656 feet below sea level, and at the Dead Sea it drops to 1,312 feet below sea level - the lowest point on earth.

    Geography
Ah, the Promised Land; land flowing with milk and honey; paradise on earth, with snow-crested mountains, verdant valleys, sweetwater lake, fast-flowing river and long, unspoiled coastline. Well, not quite. While it may certainly have been more like that in ancient history, the last 2000 years have seen the land of Israel denuded, with malarial swampland slithering down from the north and dusty desert creeping up from the south. The restored people of Israel have spent the last 125 years draining the swamps, pushing back the wilderness, planting and nurturing hundreds of new forests. What has not changed much is the lie of the land. The coastal plain that sweeps inland from the Mediterranean surrenders to gently sloping foothills and they, in turn, to the rocky peaks of Samaria and the smooth dome-topped hills of Judea. Together, the Samarian and Judean ridges create a mountainous spine that stretches from south of the Dead Sea up to the Jezreel Valley. These "mountains of Israel" as the Bible calls them, stand as a fortress wall keeping the country's enemies away from the coastal plain, where upwards of 80 percent of Israel's citizens live today. Further north, Lebanon's southern hills to the west and the Golan heights to the east form a cap around the top of the Galilee, with the Golan one of Israel's main water catchment areas, channeling the life-bringing liquid down to the Sea of Galilee.
