Corned Beef Cowboys? - A Texas Feast for Saint Patrick's Day
by David Bulla In Texas on Saint Patrick's Day, green is the theme, excessive behavior is the norm, and Corned Beef and Cabbage is a staple for many. Most people would not necessarily think of Irish heritage when they think of Texas, but like just about everywhere else in the country, Irish roots run deep in this state. Texas has a long Irish heritage, dating all the way back to when the first settlers migrated to the Spanish ruled colony. Hugo O'Connor was one of the first Irish settlers in Texas, and became governor ad interim in 1767. Irish settlers were significant contributors to the Texas Revolution. Close to 15 percent of the Texan forces at the battle of San Jacinto were Irish. Eleven Irishmen died at the Alamo. By 1860, the census listed over 3400 Irish-born Texans. It's safe to say that the Irish contributed significantly to the history and heritage of the state.

Simplify - Take A Tip From Down To Earth Irish Cooking
By Jorj Morgan Classic Irish cookery is a simple, honest approach to comfort food designed to feed a hearty appetite. Of course, many of Ireland's fine dishes were born out of poorer times such as Irish stew, thick potato soup and seafood pie. Recently, there has been a renaissance in Irish cooking and chefs all over the world are looking to re-create some of the most well known dishes. Many recipes have been updated using the most familiar local ingredients such as fresh-from-the-sea roasted salmon with parsley sauce. Here is a look at a few classic Irish dishes that can easily make their way to your weekly meal plan: Or Create Some of Your Own

Review Contents - Elegant Irish Cooking plays host to over 100 Irish guest chefs, "narrated" by Master Chef, Noel Cullen. Cullen himself an Irish chef who now calls Boston home holiding the post of Professor of Culinary Arts at Boston University.
What's Hot - "Irish cooking has grown and developed from the rich bounty of its land and water", not from out side influences. Fittingly the book features a great introduction with a very readable history of Irish cooking from the 2nd century AD to somewhat more recent times. The book's recipes are well laid out and there are some tasty treats to be found such as the from chef Colin O' Daley of Dublin restaurant Roly's Bistro.

Here are creative menus and delicious recipes from Ireland's most romantic country house hotels, adapted especially for American kitchens. A 50 minute CD of Irish music is included to set the mood. Aran Knitting by Alice Starmore. Alice Starmore's definitive explanation of an Irish Aran sweater and its development is surprising and fascinating. Arans are not ancient, andcontrary to popular legendthey were not developed as fishermen's garments. Starmore offers fairly convincing evidence that "true" Aran sweaters were adapted in this century from Scottish fishing ganseys. They are unarguably warm, practical, and beautiful, and here they are gorgeously photographed. Starmore, one of the knitting world's living treasures, includes specific cable patterns, patterns for 14 garments (both Aran and Celtic-style), and a clear, sensible guide to designing original Aran sweaters.

Uniting Irish foods and drinks in a unique way, this book puts the excitement back into cooking. It is about forming new alliances, creating new marriages, and joining the best of Irish spirits and brews with the best of Irish cooking.
For centuries, the marriage of wine with food has been a happy one. Chefs, food writers and wine critics continue to extol the virtues of the two for the perfect partnership they create and for the ability to elevate ordinary recipes to extraordinary dishes with a mere splash of red or a dash of white wine.
Margaret Johnson, whose grandparents and great grandparents emigrated to the US from Cork, Dublin, Rathmore, and Ballyvourney is herself an Irish citizen. She has made a dozen trips to Ireland in the last six years pursuing her interest in what she calls "all things Irish." Her visits have resulted in the publication of two cookbooks: Ireland: Grand Places, Glorious Food
