- Assembly: Iran has a unicameral Islamic Consultative Assembly, or Majles-e-Shura-ye-Eslami.
Description of electoral system: - Members of the Islamic Consultative Assembly are elected by popular vote to serve four-year terms.
- The Islamic Consultative Assembly elects six members to the Council of Guardians and an additional six are appointed by the president. The Council of Guardians is responsible for assuring that legislation passed is compatible with Islam. They also supervise elections for the Assembly of Experts, the president and the parliament.
- The 83 members of the Assembly of Experts are popularly elected and are responsible for appointing the leader of the Islamic Revoultion to serve until death or removal by the Council of Experts.
