Quad City Times (Iowa) The grant is one of four awarded to schools in Iowa, according to the office of Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa. North Scott will receive $48,250 to develop a plan. About 70 percent of American high school students attend schools with more than 1,000 students, the Department of education says. Half of those go to schools with more than 1,500 students. Millions of dollars in grants have been awarded since the inception of the program. This year, four Iowa schools will receive a total of nearly $1.3 million. Sioux City will receive $149,450 to continue its study at four of its campuses. Waterloo will receive a three-year, $700,000 grant for Waterloo East and Waterloo West high schools. And West Des Moines will spend $400,000 to develop smaller communities at Valley High School.

Article by Doug Johnson Home Articles Contact information Column title, periodical, and issue: 12 Point Library/Media Program Checklist for Building Administrators Book Report , Jan 1996 Revised in 1999 (Now "A Point Library/Media Program Checklist for Building Administrators") No More Agents of Benevolent Neglect! Over the next 30 years, my view of school administrators did not improve a great deal as I moved from being a student to being a teacher, to finally being a media specialist. The worst principal I worked for often bragged that he managed to obtain his college degrees without ever setting foot in a library. I told him I could tell. The best principal I had, I considered an agent of benevolent neglect. There was an unspoken agreement that if I left him alone, he would leave me alone. Rapid changes in technology, learning research, and the library profession in the past ten years are leaving school media programs at a wide range of development. Is your school's media program keeping current with these changes? The brief checklist below can be used with your media professionals to help evaluate the currency of your media program. 1) Professional staff and duties Does each media center have the services of a fully licensed media specialist?
