Resource Room Library Media at Roosevelt Roosevelt Media Center provides a variety of services to students and teachers, including classes in information and research skills, books, and literature, and integration of technology into the curriculum. Classes can be taught on an "as-needed," basis, in conjunction with curriculum, as well as on a regularly scheduled basis. Students check out books and use the computer lab throughout the day. The library provides much of the curricular material for teachers and students. Library and computer instruction assistance sessions are twenty-five minutes. Kindergarten through fourth grades have weekly scheduled library classes. Grades five and six use the Media Center on a flexibly-scheduled basis. The Iowa City Community School District's library program won the national award as "Program of the Year" for small-to-medium school districts, by the school division of the American Library Association in 1997. Some of our strengths are the provision for a full-time media specialist in every elementary school, and a commitment to collaborative teaching within the curriculum.

Materials are checked out to students for two weeks and may be renewed if no others are waiting to use the item. Students who have overdue materials are asked to return those items before checking out new items. Students who are unable to locate overdue materials are asked to bring a note from a parent stating they have made a thorough search for the materials and cannot find them. Students who lose or damage items will be expected to pay for replacement. Classes normally have a weekly date to visit the library as a group for check out. Individuals and small groups may use the library for research whenever the library is not in use by classes. Individual students are encouraged to visit the library with teacher permission whenever they have a need for new materials. Mrs. Wood's Webpage
