Help Career and Technical Education Iowa's K-12+ Career Pathway Framework The Career Pathways concept was originated through Tech Prep. Since that time, model standards and benchmarks have been developed through the joint efforts of the Association of Business and Industry (ABI), the Department of Education (DE), Department of Economic Development (DED), Iowa Workforce Development (IWD), including the School-to-Work (STW) Office. As you can see, this is a work in progress. In no way is the Department of Education or the STW Office setting forth a mandate for schools to adopt this model. It is only a model and a resource that is reflective of supporting legislation through School-to-Work, and Chapter 12 of Iowa Code (Comprehensive School Improvement and HF-2272.) University of Iowa News Release Aug. 2, 2005 Iowa K-12 Students Picked To Display Gadgets At State Fair Aug. 13 The University of Iowa has selected (NAME) of (HOMETOWN) and (SCHOOL) to display his/her entry from the state's invention competition, the (INVENTION), in the UI booth at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines Saturday, Aug. 13. Thirteen participants in the 2005 Invent Iowa State Invention Convention, held at Iowa State University in April, were selected to showcase their inventions in the UI's state fair booth in the Varied Industries Building. The inventions were selected as representative examples of the many imaginative, inspired and often very useful items generated by bright minds across Iowa and presented annually at the annual Invention Conventions. The Invention Convention, sponsored by the UI College of Education's Connie Belin and Jacqueline N. Blank International Center for Gifted Education and Talent Development and the UI and ISU Colleges of Engineering, alternates between the two campuses each year. This year's Invention Convention brought together 326 inventors and co-inventors of 246 inventions representing 141 Iowa cities and towns. To reach the state level, students are encouraged to develop inventions that meet the general requirements for a patent in the United States: they must be "new, useful and non-obvious." Students also are encouraged to keep journals chronicling their inventions' development from concept to completion.
