http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~lcgs/
OAS_AD('Top'); McCorkle/Hillis/Gooding Connection Last updated: April 10, 2005 Walter McCorkle Washington County, Iowa
Hendricks County, Indiana

Why did Walter McCorkle, who died at the age of 31, name his son Joseph Hillis McCorkle? Walter McCorkle was married in Hendricks County, Indiana but there were few McCorkles in that county. However, next door in Putnam County are many McCorkles. In the 1830 census, William McCorkle and Joseph Hillis were living next door to one another and listed on the same page. Was William McCorkle the father of Walter? Surely, they must be at least cousins! Going back further, we find that Elizabeth Ruth McCorkle married William Hillis. Were their children or grandchildren cousins of our Walter?
Work in Progress with many McCorkles located in the United States.

I'm searching descendants of Thomas Wakefield born 1618 and came to America on the ship "AMERICA" followed later by two of his brothers John, and Richard. Thomas married Hester and they had four sons. Thomas later married Ann Marler and they had a son Abel. This is the line my husband Timothy comes from. I have no information of his first family or his brothers or of England. Abel had a son Abel(2) who had a son Abel(3) who had a son Abel(4) who had a son Hezekiah Branson Wakefield who married Cathrine Stucky and had ten children one of which was James Stucky Wakefield who married Elizabeth Daughtery, their son George G. married Minerva Bell Wells, and their son William Henry who married Caddie Grace Stragell this is where I would like more information. I would also like information on their life in England and his brothers.
