Dr. Cartwright is an Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering, Director of the Institute for Lasers, Photonics and Biophotonics, and Co-Director of the Electronics Packaging Laboratory, both at the University at Buffalo. In 1998, he received a NSF CAREER Award that supported his research on GaN based optoelectronic devices and his educational activities. In 2000, he was awarded a Department of Defense Young Investigator Award for research in piezoelectricity in III-N materials. Dr. Cartwright's research is focused on III-N materials, quantum dot materials, optical non-destructive testing of stress and strain for device reliability, nanophotonics and nanoelectronics. Dr. Paul Champion graduated from the University of London in 1965. He received post-graduate education in London, the Netherlands, and in Vancouver, BC. He was awarded a PH.D from Leyden University in 1973 and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada in 1975. Since 1976 he has practiced and taught clinical respirology and bronchoscopy at the Vancouver General Hospital. He holds the position of Clinical Professor of Medicine. Special interests include the management of bronchial asthma, gastroesophageal reflux causing asthma, the diagnosis of cough syndromes, sarcoidosis, lung malignancies, and COPD. He is consultant to the BC Cancer Agency, BC Centre for Disease Control, TB in-patient service, and is consultant to the BC Home Government Home Oxygen Programme.

Alan Kay
Senior HP Fellow Alan Kay, one of the earliest pioneers of personal computing, is a Senior Fellow at HP Labs, researching and developing new software platforms for devices and distributed applications, based on open source code. At the Utah ARPA Project in 1966, inspired by Sketchpad, Simula, biology and algebra, he invented dynamic object-oriented programming. Most of his contributions from 1968 onwards have been the result of trying to invent and test better learning environments, mainly for children. He has been a Xerox Fellow, Chief Scientist of Atari, Apple Fellow, Disney Fellow, and is now President of Viewpoints Research Institute, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving both general education and understanding of complex systems. Kay has received two of the computing industry's highest honors: the ACM Turing Award and the National Acaemy of Engineering (NAE) Charles Stark Draper Prize.

William J. Rea, M.D.
, is a thoracic and cardiovascular surgeon with a strong passion for the environmental aspects of health and disease. Founder of the Environmental Health Center (EHC-D), Dr. Rea is currently director of this highly specialized Dallas based medical facility. The EHC also has a clinic in Chicago, Illinois. In 1988, Dr. Rea was named to the world's first professorial chair of environmental medicine at the Robens Institute of Toxicology at the University of Surrey in Guildford, England. He was also awarded the Jonathan Forman Gold Medal Award in 1987 and the Herbert J. Rinkel Award in 1993, both by the American Academy of Environmental Medicine, as well as named Outstanding Alumnus by Otterbein College in 1991. He was also named to the Mountain Valley Water Hall of Fame for work in the field of study of clean water and, in 1995, he received the F.A.M.E.
