They have created its landforms, periodically regenerated its soils, and helped to produce the dramatic downpours which provide the island with life-giving water. The Balinese recognize these geophysical facts of life, and the island's many volcanoes, lakes and springs are considered by them to be sacred.

Indonesian Geography
Indonesia is a country comprised of a sprawling group of islands and archipelagos straddling the equator. It consists of more than 13, 677 islands, including the 5 main islands of Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and Irian Jaya, two main archipelagos and 60 smaller ones. Many of these islands are mountainous and there are around 100 active volcanoes in the country. However, the volcanic soil, combined with its tropical climate, has made most of Indonesia extremely fertile. There is little variation in the climate during the year; it is tropical, hot, and humid with warm waters. Western Indonesia has a dry season from June to September and a rainy season from December to March. In addition to the variety of languages, Indonesia's ethnic groups have diverse myths, legends, stories, and cultural mores; this diversity is a tremendous challenge to the modern State. Nation building in Indonesia is a complex task, involving the formation of national unity and a national cultural identity out of the many regional identities that most Indonesians learn from birth. One means of attaining this identity is through education, which is free and compulsory for children through grade 9. In spite of this, many children attend primary school only part time, and only half attend middle school.

indonesia, the largest archipelago in the world to form a single state consists of indonesia’s national territory consists 84% of sea and 16% of land.
http://www.indonesia-ottawa.org/indonesia/geography.php
GEOGRAPHY The name "INDONESIA" is composed of the two Greek words: "Indos" meaning India, and "Nesos" meaning islands. The Indonesian archipelago forms a crossroad between two oceans, the Pacific and Indian oceans and a bridge between two continents, Asia and Australia. Because of its strategic position, therefore, Indonesia 's cultural, social, political and economic patterns have always been conditioned by its geographical position.
Climate
In Indonesia only two seasons prevail, a dry and wet, or rainy season. In most areas, the rainy season lasts from December up to March and driy season from May to October, with the transition periods characterized by shifting winds and capricious weather occuring in the months of March to May and September to November. The transitional period between these two seasons alternates between gorgeous sun-filled days and occasional thunderstorms. Even in the midst of the wet season temperature could range from 21 degrees (70 degrees Fahrenheit) to 33 degrees Celsius (90 degreed Fahrenheit), except at higher altitudes, which can be much cooler. The heaviest rainfall is usually recorded in December and January each year. Top
Fauna
Within the Indonesian archipelago lies one of the most remarkable zoogeographical boundaries in the world, which dates back to the glacial period when the sea level fell worldwide. In that glacial period, Java, Sumatra, and Kalimantan lay on the Sunda self and were joined to each other and to the mainland of Asia, but Papua and the Australian continent at that time lay on the Sahul shelf. This original geographical segregation explains why the typical oriental fauna species found in Java, Sumatra and Kalimantan are completely lacking in Papua. Similarly, the marsupials, which occur in Papua, are not found in the Oriental Region.

International Luncheons
Each semester the MBA Association, the Institute for International Business and the Tippie School of Management host an international luncheon that features two countries represented in the Tippie MBA student body. At these luncheons, students, faculty and staff are given the chance to sample ethnic recipes while their classmates give overview presentations on the business and social cultures of their respective countries. Spring 2005: Germany and Indonesia This semester's luncheon took place on Wednesday, March 23, and featured Germany and Indonesia. The luncheon program was presented by first-year MBA students Dominick Hennen and Ingo Raulf of Germany and Arivia Listyowardojo of Indonesia. The luncheon began at noon with a buffet offering a rather eclectic menu, which included both Indonesian and German recipes provided by Avivia and Dominik (Dominik's mom, to be precise). The buffet included: Kasespatzle (Spaetzle Cheese Noodles); German Onion Pie; Gado-Gado (mixed vegetables with peanut sauce dressing); Ajam Pangang (braised chicken with soy sauce); Indonesian Fried Rice; and Jakarta Delight with coconut and bananas.
