JAVANESE MYSTICAL MOVEMENTS
Introduction
North Indian shaman There are numerous forms of mysticism. The majestic grandeur of nature evoked an intuitive awe in man and a feeling of unity. Some time in history members of the homo sapiens species began directing their attention inside themselves as they received indications of a magical and spiritual nature.
In early cultures groups formed around a person who seemed through some strange play of nature be possessed with extraordinary powers and insights. Some call them medicine man, or shamans In modern culture mysticism is seen as the practice of communion and adoration of man of his divine nature.
It takes all forms, though. On this page an introduction to Javanese mysticism, the origins of which little is known as its early adherents committed little to writing.
ANTHROPOLOGY AND JAVANESE MYSTICAL MOVEMENTS
During the last decades Javanese mysticism has become more and more of interest to anthropologists. They base their books, articles, doctoral theses, etc. partly on Dutch studies during their colonial past, partly on their own observations during field-work. Java is particularly fascinating because its culture bears traces of various religions. 'Kresna', wayang puppet

Home Doing Business in Indonesia
One of the biggest challenges of working in a foreign country is learning how to operate in a different cultural setting. Business may be business the whole world over, but the way it is conducted differs widely. Expats have heard (and told) numerous stories about cultural snafus, missed appointments, differences in management style causing problems at the office, lost orders or down time on production lines due to serious miscommunications, labor problems between foreign management and local staff and many other problems. Many of these problems could have been averted or lessened had the expatriate manager and the local counterparts and colleagues been better prepared for the differences in work patterns that they would encounter. How do you know how to approach people, how to set appointments, how to determine what various actions mean in a different culture, how to close a deal Indonesian style, how to deal with jam karet (rubber time), and a multitude of other questions?

Australia Indonesia Arts Alliance
This site relies on frames, however there are links below to several pages. AIAA was founded by Judith Shelley in May 1998. At that time the situation in Indonesia had become increasingly difficult due to the economic crisis. AIAA grew from this concern and a desire to create closer contact and exchange with Indonesia. AIAA was established in order to:
- promote Indonesian culture in Australia
- create new opportunies for Indonesian artists to visit Australia to share their culture here. By creating a project which enables Indonesian artworkers to visit Australia to work and teach, it supports individual artists as well as creating greater understanding and co-operation between Australia and Indonesia. This exchange will have several benefits:
  • The art and music of Indonesia will be preserved
  • Australians will be exposed to Indonesian culture
  • Artists and Australians can enjoy cultural exchange
  • Artists will receive payment for their talents If you would like to know how to start up a group in your community, we have included some tips in "Start a Group". Feel free to contact Judith Shelley, the Co-ordinator, if you would like to discuss your involvement with Indonesian culture within your own community, or you have ideas, suggestions or questions.
