Young Balinese Dancers. Photo: G Larson Music being played to accompany dancers. Photo: G Larson Art forms in Indonesia have been influenced by several cultures. The famous Javanese and Balinese dances, for example, contain aspects of Hindu culture and mythology. Also well-known are the Javanese and Balinese wayang kulit Shadow puppet theatre shows, displaying several mythological events. Several Islands are famous for their batik and ikat cloth.
Music
Main article: Music of Indonesia Indonesia is culturally diverse and is home to hundreds of forms of music, with those from the islands of Java, Sumatra and Bali being the most frequently recorded. The best-known traditional music from central/east Java and Bali is the Gamelan . A very popular modern style of music is the Dangdut , with the accompanying dance style. It is so popular that many political rallies have Dangdut performances to attract a larger audience.

32. Indonesia Culture: Keris
the situation such as economic difficulties and changing sociocultural values. Many people worried about the imminent loss of this cultural asset.
http://www.nikhef.nl/~tonvr/keris/keris2/keris15.html
Keris
In the old days, tribes would collect the skulls of the enemies they had beheaded to prove their prowess. For the same purpose, agrarian communities would collect the horns of buffaloes they had slaughtered and the Javanese would only feel contented if, apart from owning a big house and a horse, they could own a keris (Javanese dagger). The legend of Mpu Gandring, the master blacksmith murdered with the kris he forged himself by King Ken Arok, who had ordered the dagger from him, dates back about five centuries. Though he was not the first kris-maker, this story has persisted for centuries. Its mystery is intriguing and has prompted widespread speculation over the years. No records and convincing evidence have yet indicated when krises were first wrought. While the Rukam inscription (829 Caka/907 AD) makes some reference to the word kris, this Javanese weapon is likely to have been recognized even earlier. The contents of Rukam and several other inscriptions mention the symbolic role of krises in ritual offerings to the gods, while the legend of Mpu Gandring's tragic death affirms the function of the kris as a weapon as well as a sanctified heirloom with magical powers. Krises became intimate in the daily life of the Javanese (as governor general Raffles once put it, "Javanese males without krises are like nude men") and assumed a variety of different functions.

H M QUEEN RANIA TO BE ROYAL PATRON OF THE GLOBAL SUMMIT ON PEACE THROUGH TOURISM February 5-8, 2003, Geneva, Switzerland Her Majesty Queen Rania Al-Abdullah of The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan Queen Rania's development of substantive projects that aim to improve the living conditions of underprivileged groups in Jordanian Society provides a model of leadership for the Summit's aim of "Building a Culture of Peace through Tourism". In 1995, Queen Rania established the Jordan River Foundation (JRF), a non-profit, non-governmental institution encompassing several projects that aim at improving the quality of life and providing a better future for all Jordanians. The Foundation oversees several well-known projects in the Kingdom that include Jordan River Designs, Wadi Rayan and Bani Hamida. These projects empower women to become skilled contributors to the Jordanian economy, while generating additional sources of income to support their families. The projects have also encouraged the revival of an almost forgotten heritage of craft production and rug-weaving. In 1997 Queen Rania launched the Jordan River Children Program (JRC), which is the Foundation's arm that focuses on children's issues, and in creating healthy generations of young Jordanians through protective and preventative interventions. The Child Safety Program (CSP), which is part of the JRC, addresses both protective and preventative activities with the overall objectives of enhancing positive child-rearing practices to protect children, and to identify, confront and eliminate various forms of abuse through awareness, prevention and rehabilitation programs.
