THE NEW EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM Pictured is Saffa Koroma, the Education Secretary and Associate Director of Operation Classroom The new educational system developed by the government of Sierra Leone has brought about some changes in our schools. All schools must follow this new system. The new system is 6-3-3-4. The areas Indiana is related to are the 3-3 or the Junior and Senior Secondary classes. These would be the same as our junior and senior school. When the students finish Junior Secondary they are tested. If they do well on the test they can go into the academic stream or Senior Secondary. If they do not score well on the test they are channeled into a vocational stream. Some schools are identified as both Junior Secondary and vocational schools. Others are Senior Secondary schools only and some are both Junior and Senior Secondary schools. Fergusson, Bo Centenary, and Makeni are designated as Junior Secondary Schools with a vocational program providing for those who will not be pursuing the academic stream. The government determined which schools would be Junior and/or Senior secondary schools. Albert Academy and Baoma are both Junior and Secondary schools in the academic stream.

Its six comprehensive high schools and vocational schools serve more than 32,000 students, covering pre-kindergarten to 12th grade. The district is home to a small teaching pool at North Side High School and the lovely Helen P. Brown Natatorium. Welcome to the
Indiana North Central Association
Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement! The North Central Association Commission on Accre ditation and School Improvement is a nationally recognized regional accrediting organization whose purposes are to accredit schools and to support schools in their efforts for school improvement. It is a not-for-profit, voluntary membership organization of approximately 9,100 schools in a 19-state region plus schools of the Department of Defense Dependents and Navajo Nation. In Indiana, the NCA CASI represents 561 elementary, middle and secondary, optional special function, unit, college prep and adult/vocational schools.
NCA CASI was originally formed in 1895 as a society to discuss and resolve issues relating to education in the late 1800s. By 1901, the Association had appointed a Commission on Accredited Schools to develop standards for schools. In 1904, the Association approved its first list of 156 accredited schools. Indiana's Emmerich Manual was the first Indiana school to be accredited by this Association, followed shortly by Alexandria-Monroe High School.
In 1965, the Commission began a re-evaluation program requiring self-study and peer review visits on a regular schedule. The requirement was that each member participate in a self-study and team visit at least once during each seven-year cycle (now a five-year cycle). NCA CASI provides a school improvement model focusing on achieving growth in student learning. It is a process for change and accountability. The NCA CASI process requires planning, implementing, and assessing using a data-driven results-oriented model.

Things to consider before you enroll in a private vocational school:
Is the school promising you a job when you graduate?
It is against the law for private vocational schools to use any business name, logo or insignia that is designed to be deceptive and mislead potential students about affiliations the school might have. Did you answer an employment agency ad for a job and found you were really calling a school?
Is a course necessary to get a job?
Check the newspaper to see who is offering the jobs you want. Call the human resources departments of some of the companies and ask if you really need a course. How are you going to pay for the course?
Depending on which type of loan you get, you may have to start repaying the loan as soon as you finish school.
It can take many years to pay back the loan, depending on the cost of the course and how high the interest rate is.
Unlike many other types of loans or debts, school loans are very difficult to discharge in bankruptcy.

Testimony of Mr. Ron Flickinger Education and Job Training: Preparing for the 21 st Century Workforce
Indiana Vocational Education Area 14
Anthis Career Center March 22, 2002 INTRODUCTION
Career and Technical Education, traditionally called "vocational education", has for many years been considered by the leadership of both the educational and political communities to be an alternative program for the academically deficient. Summit Career and Technical Education categorically rejects that notion—on the contrary, this office sees career and technical education as being the leader in both whole-school reform and in the foundational preparation for a globally competitive workforce. Our research into the career opportunities for young people who will be working in the 21 st century convinces us that not only the educational products we produce, but the educational processes we use as well, put secondary career and technical education students well ahead of their peers with respect to post-secondary success as they enter the 21 st century workforce. This paper will briefly overview the vision and the current activities in Indiana Area 14 and the Anthis Career Center that justify this statement.
