    ALTERNATIVE ROUTES TO CERTIFICATION
    The Alternative Routes to Certification (ARC) Program prepares individuals with degrees, Bachelor’s or more, outside of education, for Indiana teacher certification. ARC is an intensive program combining graduate courses and two semesters of internship, in the field of certification you have selected. The purpose of the program is to provide career changers with the knowledge and experience necessary to successfully enter the teaching profession as effective educators, and to provide schools and learners with competent, innovative, professional teachers. ARC is offered every other year, when sufficient cohorts of qualified candidates are admitted. ARC programs are subject to change based on State, University or Division requirements. Persons interested in the 2005 cohort may contact the program Director for further details regarding application. There is a $50 fee for transcript analysis.

    Academic Standing
    Academic Probation
    A student whose cumulative grade point average (GPA) falls below a 2.0 will be placed on probation. The student may continue studies provided the student achieves a GPA of at least 2.0 for each semester while on probation. Once the cumulative GPA is at least 2.0, the student will be removed from probationary status. A student will be advised of probationary status by letter from the associate dean for academic programs and student development.
    Dismissal
    A student on probation who has completed a minimum of 12 IUPUI grade point average (GPA) hours is subject to dismissal if the student fails to attain a GPA of at least 2.0 in any two consecutive IUPUI semesters (fall and spring), including the semester that the student was first placed on probation. A student can also be dismissed from the university when, in the opinion of the associate dean for academic programs and student development of the School of Science, the student has ceased making progress in the degree program.
    Readmission
    A student dismissed for the first time must remain out of school at least one regular (fall or spring) semester. During the semester out of school, the student may petition the Office of the Associate Dean for Academic Programs and Student Development for readmission. A student dismissed for the second time must remain out of school at least two regular semesters (fall and spring), but may petition for readmission during the second semester out of school. Readmission after a second dismissal is extremely rare.
