READING COUNTS
  • Reading Counts is a reading incentive program that encourages recreational reading. Not only do students have the feeling of accomplishment of reading a great book, but also they get rewards along the way!
There are approximately 3000 different titles in the Reading Counts (RC) program. Books with yellow dots on the spine indicate they are a part of the RC program
The list of 3000 books is not open to every student. Each student is given a minimum Lexile (The Lexile level is the measure of reading difficulty given to text, based in part on sentence difficulty and length and word frequency.)

As part of a program to supply every high school student with an individual computer for each class they visit, Indiana schools are testing Linux desktops. If the Indiana Access Program is successful, 300,000 Linux machines could potentially be deployed across the state - a big win for the open source movement.
"Indiana schools aren't just talking about desktop Linux – students and teachers are actually using it every day," said Kevin Carmony, CEO of Linspire, which is supplying the Linux OS and software. The initial rollout of Linux began in Indiana three years ago, and a new deployment is scheduled to begin this month. [Get the links]
