Real name: Charles John Holt, III
(Courtesy of Culver Military Academy, Culver, Indiana) Tim Holt was the son of Jack and Margaret (Woods) Holt, and was born February 5, 1919. Jack was a member of Hollywood's early "royalty" and a bonafide silent film star. The younger Holt often was with his father on location and even did a "kid role" in one of his dad's silents. During the 1930s, he attended Culver Military Academy (CMA), a prestigious boarding school in north-central Indiana, located 45 minutes south of South Bend. Culver's website is at: http://www.culver.org/
My special thanks to Alan Loehr, Director of Alumni Relations at Culver, who provided a variety of photos on Tim Holt. Mr. Loehr writes: "Charles John 'Tim' Holt, III was a graduate of Culver Military Academy (CMA), class of '36. Holt was wounded over Tokyo on the last day of World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was in Culver's famed Black Horse Troop. His roommate during his two years was Hal Roach, Jr. '37, scion of another famous Hollywood family, who went on to a career producing movies and operating several studios. Roach was the Captain of what was arguably CMA's greatest football team in the fall of '36, when they went undefeated and outscored opponents, 223-6. Coincidentally, the two roommates died within months of each other. Roach died of pneumonia in March of '72; Holt was stricken with cancer in August '72 and died in February of 1973."

About Southern Wells
(Awwww, I know this already! I went there for 13 years, so just jump me to the alumni news Southern Wells Community Schools , kindergarten through senior high, is a complex of attached buildings in the cornfields of our county. Although the mailing address is Poneto, Indiana, the school stands alone, in a beautiful campus on a county road. This school district has no industries to tax. All the money comes from those who live there on small farms or in tiny towns. It is awesome. The actual corner where the school sits used to be the Chester Center school before consolidation. When the elementary school caught fire, they (we) built it "one brick higher." The town of Warren in Huntington County gave us a big old traditional school that had been consolidated out of business. Our kids bussed over and went right on learning while the new school was being built. This earned a national award for both towns.
The Midland Community Spirit Award
This award commemorates the rescue of Jessica McClure from the well where she was trapped for 58 hours. There are hundreds of nominations each year. The Warren/Southern Wells award is a major and richly deserved honor.

Special to American Forces Press Service BALAD, Iraq, Oct. 8, 2004 – "I feel I've come full circle. I've gotten to finish what I started," said Indiana Army National Guardsman Spc. Teresa L. Morris, said of her service that started nearly 31 years ago. Spc. Teresa L. Morris, of the Indiana National Guard, first came into the active Army in November 1973. After a break in service, she joined the Guard in 1992 and is currently deployed in Iraq. Photo by Spc. Leah R. Burton
(Click photo for screen-resolution image); high-resolution image available. She has firsthand knowledge of the growth the Army has undergone in the past 30 years, as she answered the call of duty and enlisted in the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps on Nov. 30, 1973. Back then, women were not allowed in the U.S. Army. WAC and the Army were two separate entities, and the woman's role was purely in a support capacity. Morris attended six weeks of basic training at Fort McClellan, Ala., then the Army's women's training base. Then, she went through eight weeks of advanced individual training at Fort Jackson, S.C., to be a clerk-typist.

CC! Janet Sparks Memorial Scholarship and AYCA Awards
The second annual presentation of the Janet Sparks Memorial Scholarships and the American Youth Character Awards took place May 3, 2005, at the Anderson Chamber of Commerce Awards held at Reardon Auditorium, on the campus of Anderson University. CC! board member Joy Lloyd played a big role in this event.

Local CC! president Dan Sager scheduled over 12 convocations with Anderson's CC! Athletes Class of 2005. Mr. Sager also facilitated these events, and CC! national faculty member Don Peslis says, "To see the faces of the students upon hearing about character both on and off the court has truly been TRRFCC!" The athletes described the importance of building good character and the Six Pillars, and signed and handed out their own personalized playing cards with the Six Pillars. A CC! Athletes of Character grad, Ashley Davis, who now plays #1 singles for Wake Forest, was guest speaker at this year's athletes banquet.
