In 1965, the ceiling was lowered and acoustical fissured ceiling board was installed. In 1972, the windows were replaced with glass brick and some of the windows were closed on the inside. In 1992, an entryway and elevator were added. Alexandria Alexandria Monroe Public Library
The library was renovated in 1989. At that time, also, an addition was built that nearly tripled the size of the original building. This work included new electrical and plumbing systems, new heating and air-conditioning system, and all new furnishings. All the existing doors and windows were replaced. All public service areas of the building are on the ground floor or accessible by elevators. The new shelving allows the growth of the book collections from 22,000 volumes to 40,000. The Alexandria Monroe Public Library has a round shape to the exterior back walls of the original building. This has also been incorporated into the exterior walls of the addition. Angola Steuben County Public Library
In 1988, a 14,200 sq. ft. addition was wrapped around the west, east and south sides of the original building. This more than quadrupled the original space to 17,400 sq.ft. Unique features include beautiful stained glass windows and fountains.
