Oral Surgery
Faculty John C. McCabe, D.D.S., M.D. Dr. McCabe is Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the School of Dentistry with a secondary appointment in the medical school as Associate Professor of Surgery. Prior to coming to Omaha, Dr. McCabe was an Assistant Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Columbia University’s School of Dental and Oral Surgery. In addition, he served as Director of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at The Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Bronx, N.Y., and has extensive experience in private practice as well. Dr. McCabe was awarded his M.D. (1990) and D.D.S. (1985) by Columbia University. He completed his internship in general surgery and residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Columbia University Medical Center in New York City. His areas of clinic interest include orthognathic surgery, reconstructive surgery, implants and bone grafting and dentoalveolar surgery. On weekends, Dr. McCabe serves as a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve, Dental Corps. The Army presented him with the Army Commendation Medal in 2000 and 2001. For qualified dentists interested in the use of implant-retained prostheses who can demonstrate appropriate baseline knowledge and skills in restorative dentistry or oral surgery, particularly those with advanced skills in restorative dentistry. To provide a sound academic basis and high quality practical training in the planning, provision and maintenance of implants and implant-retained prostheses. Programme description
The syllabus will cover clinical prosthodontics and implant surgery. You will also attend new patients/review clinics, undergo self-directed learning, and carry out a supervised research project.

Philip Worthington Lectureship Emeritus Professor Dr. Worthington has made many contributions to the specialty of oral and maxillofacial surgery. Certainly one of the important contributions was his pioneering efforts in the field of endosseous implants. He is an internationally recognized expert in the field of implant dentistry. In recognition of his many contributions, his former residents, colleagues, and friends established the Philip Worthington Lectureship. The Lectureship provides the opportunity to bring an expert oral and maxillofacial surgeon to share his/her knowledge with the residents, faculty and community clinicians. The first recipient will be named this year. The Department will continue fundraising to change the Lectureship to the first faculty chair in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. The chair will be named the Philip Worthington Chair in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Faculty Dr. Jessica Lee receives the Faculty Educator Development Award at the AAOMS Meeting.

With Professor van Noort and Dr Paul Hatton Professor Brook leads an internationally recognised biomaterials group undertaking fundamental and applied studies into the biological response induced by implanted materials and the nature of the biomaterial/tissue interface. The group has particular expertise in the field of ionomeric cements, ceramics based on ionomeric glasses and surface modification of biomaterials current funding EPSRC, BBSRC Sheffield Dental Implant Society, Nobel Boicare Uk and the EU.
