Includes the history of this church built in 1876 as gathered by the illinois Trails History and genealogy of Schuyler County site.
http://www.iltrails.org/schuyler/BaderChristianChurchHistory.html
Bader Christian Church
Bader, Illinois
Built 1876
Some people from what is now the Bader community attended a meeting held by Beverly Curry at the Samuel Kirkham home on Sugar Creek in 1838. He continued to meet with them from time to time and in 1840 they organized as a church at the home of Joseph Dennis with a membership of 34. No complete list of charter members is available, but among them are Joseph Dennis, Phillip Mulkey, Henry Venters, T. Lancaster, W. K. Jones, Sarah Fowler, and Ophelia Marshall.
This group continued to meet from house to house until the log schoolhouse was built in old District No. I in 1849 when permission was given to use as a meeting place.
This continued to be the meeting place until 1876 when the first church building was erected during the ministry of H. C. Littleton. This church was built n ground donated by Mrs. Fowler and cost $1,000. The membership was 87 in 1882.
A few of the names of ministers and evangelists of this period are as follows: M. D. Sharples, J. B. Royal, D. E. Hughes, C. H. Shiplett, L. R. Thomas, Will F. Shaw, Chester B. Grubb, and Guy V. Ferguson.
In the year 1928 the question was raised about building a new church. The Builder's class under the leadership of Bro. H.S. Stauffer took the responsibility of raising the money.

Native American Languages Native American Cultures What's new on our site today!
Native Languages of the Americas: Illinois-Miami (Maumee, Myamia, Twightwee)
Language: Miami and Illinois are dialects of the same Algonquian language, spoken in Indiana and later Oklahoma. Though no native speakers of the language remain, language revival efforts are ongoing, and children from both the Miami and Peoria nations are learning to speak their ancestral language again.
People: The Miami Indians (Maumee or Myaamia, also called Twightwee or Twatwa by some of their neighbors) live in two groups, one of about 2000 Miami in Oklahoma and one of about 6000 in Indiana. The two groups consider themselves the same people, but only the Oklahoma tribe is recognized by the American government. Though the Illinois speak the same language the Miami do and the two are historical allies, they have always considered themselves politically distinct.
History: The Miami and Illinois Indians were very close relatives with nearly identical culture and language, but distinct political affiliation. Both nations were really loose confederations of several independent tribes, so perhaps there was some political rift which caused some tribes to group together as Miami and some as Illini. The Illini tribe was the more powerful of the two, until an Illinois man murdered the controversial but much-loved Chief Pontiac of the Ottawa Tribe then almost every tribe of the central US except their kin the Miami turned on the Illini in a vengeful war that left only a few hundred survivors, mostly women and children. The Miami, meanwhile, were trying to fight off attempts by the young United States to drive them from their Ohio lands. With the alliance of the

OAS_AD('Top'); Thank you for visiting. Whether you are family or our neighbors, we hope your stay will be pleasant and that before you leave, you will understand the love my mother brought to all of us.
T his site is dedicated to my mother and the families that came before her, which constitute our "Heritage". . My mother died at 62 years of age, 17 years ago.
T hrough research, we have been able to post biographies on some of the families. On other families, we only have outlines. We will include the outlines now but hopefully, with further research, we will be able to write meaningful descriptions of their lives.
T here are many unfamiliar names here. Please do not discount them. They are most often the names of our " grandmothers.
D iscovering our ancestors and understanding their lives can only enrich ours lives. When we study family history, we add "value" to the lives of those who were here before us and in doing so add value to our own. We tell our children that what they do matters because they are a part of something bigger than themselves. They are apart of "Our Family".
Y ou can take a walk down memory lane and share with us the ambiance of your ancestor's lives, their music, their dress and their customs. But if the lifestyle of this century affords you little time, please use my search engine. It will locate every page of my site that your ancestors are listed on.

Newspapers for
Illinois Genealogical Research
Newspapers contain a wealth of information of interest to genealogists and historians. Obituaries and marriage and birth announcements are commonly found in newspapers. In many locations, the executor of an estate is or was required to advertise that the estate was being settled - often the newspapers have these advertisements. Sometimes you find information about who is moving into or leaving a community. Newspapers also give a window into the life of the time and location. In small town newspapers, you often find references that Aunt Sally went to shopping in the big city, or that Cousin Joe broken his arm falling out of the apple tree. For an example of what you may find, take a look at some extracts from the 1880s from a small town newspaper called the Leon Indicator, Leon, Butler County, Kansas. These are extracts about the Beadles family who moved to Kansas from Fulton County, IL, as well as other Illinois names and places which I recognized. Newspapers can be tedious to use, but they are valuable resource you won't want to miss.
