this informative brochure Welcome to the League of Women Voters of Illinois web site. The League is a nonpartisan political organization that encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government and influences public policy through education and advocacy. The League of Women Voters of the United States was founded in Chicago on February 14, 1920. Knowing woman suffrage was inevitable, Carrie Chapman Catt urged the National American Woman Suffrage Association to change direction and help American women learn about the issues and "be worthy of the privilege of voting." The Illinois League was formed shortly after the national organization. There are forty-seven Illinois Leagues with about 4500 members in communities and counties across Illinois. Many of those members have used the League as a training ground for leadership positions locally, at the state level and nationally. Membership is open to all citizens, women and men, ages 18 and older.

Today's Question
What percentage of funerals involve cremation?
Latest statistics indicate a nationwide average of about 25 percent, up from four percent a decade ago. In Illinois, about 20% of all remains are cremated. The decision regarding cremation should reflect the wishes of the deceased. Other parts of the country have varying rates of cremation usage. Many who choose cremation also select a funeral service. Cremation is an alternative form of disposition. Printer-friendly version Find an Illinois Funeral Home here.

Our "resources" page can help you investigate movers both within and outside Illinois. Whatever you do, be wary of choosing a mover over the internet ... ESPECIALLY one who shows only a toll-free phone number on the site, but no address. Choose a mover whose business is located in your community (or the community to which you are moving), and make sure what you're really "buying" before you let them load the truck. Check them out!! Good movers don't hide details (nor do they hide their own business address), and they don't make promises that sound too good to be true. Make your hiring decision ONLY AFTER you have checked ALL of the mover's credentials, no matter where you received the referral.
