Biotechnology Advisory Council assists the Agriculture Department in developing a strategic plan for developing and promoting the biotechnology sector in Illinois. The council recommends measures to enhance public and private collaboration in the biotechnology sector.

    Minutes of the Board of Education meeting held on Monday, February 14, 2005. The meeting was called to order by the president at 6:30 p.m. The recording secretary called the roll. Present were: Boehne, Charlie Foster, Ottengheime, Curt Foster, Cribben. Absent: Spears, Palombo. The following architectural firms were interviewed by the Board: Basalay, Cary, and Alstadt from Ottawa; Green Associates from DeKalb and Deerfield; and Burnidge Cassell Associates from Elgin. Mrs. Ottengheime requested an agenda to the agenda of IV. D. Issues at Shabbona Elementary. It was moved by Curt Foster, seconded by Charlie Foster to approve the minutes of the January 24, 2005 board meeting. On a voice vote, all members voted yes. The motion carried. Dr. Bauer explained that the bill from Atlantic Mutual was approved at the last board meeting but was voided and reissued due to an incorrect address. He also said the bill from Bradley and Bradley should come out of the building fund and the bill from Frank Cooney completed their project.     Duties: The Illinois Bank Examiners' Education Foundation was created for the purpose of providing a means through which funds could be raised, invested and disbursed for continuing education and professional training activity for the examination employees of the Commissioner's office. Membership Qualifications: The Commissioner as Chairman, one Class A and three Class B members of the State Banking Board of Illinois. Powers: The Board has the following powers: (1) To promulgate reasonable rules for the purpose of administering the provisions of the Illinois Banking Act. (2) To issue orders for the purpose of administering the provisions of the Illinois Banking Act and any rule promulgated in accordance with the Illinois Banking Act.

    The earliest settlers to the Macoupin County and Brighton Township area may have been German immigrants who came around 1815. Two natives of Alabama moved their families from Tennessee to the area in 1816, while other early settlers included persons from Wales, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Georgia, and North Carolina. The authors of the History of Macoupin County with Illustrations, 1763-1879 found it important to note that, with few exceptions, the residents of Macoupin County were from the southern states. Although a few were from Pennsylvania, they pointed out that "no Yankee came, bringing with him the shrewdness, energy, and nasal twang of his race."2

    09/14/05 - Gov. Blagojevich announces high school dropout rate hits all time low

    Results show greatest one-year improvement in dropout rate since 1994
    SPRINGFIELD – Gov. Rod R. Blagojevich announced today that the dropout rate for Illinois students the past year showed the greatest one-year improvement since 1994, the year the State began tracking this information. As the dropout rate dropped to an all-time low of 4.0 percent, the graduation rate increased to 87.4 percent, the highest rate in the State’s history. These improvements follow the implementation of a new Illinois law increasing the dropout age in Illinois from 16 to 17. The law, which the Governor signed in August 2004, took effect on January 1, 2005.
