Jackson School Video-Conference proposal
Proposal ID: Other Revisions: Permanent Link: http://techfee.washington.edu/proposals/2004-055-1 Department: Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies Non-core access: Campus unit gets priority First application? No Student initiated? Yes This proposal is to enable students in the Jackson School to videoconference with local campuses as well as those overseas, and participate in discussions and courses in which such communications will be an integral part. Our hope is to use this equipment to make our study of international affairs truly international, giving students opportunities to engage in dialogue and coordinated studies with peers and scholars across the globe.
Background
The Jackson School is constantly seeking technology that can enhance and enrich our student's experience here at the University of Washington. One way is to provide a dedicated high-speed video-conference solution that our students can utilize. Our students work towards various bachelor and masters international studies degrees, and having the ability to videoconference would greatly increase our students' awareness of internationl events, societies, and culture, as well as their compentency in foreign languages. We propose to install a videoconference solution by Tandberg. Tandberg is a leading manufacturer of videoconferencing equipment and has several units located on the UW campus, specifically Health Sciences, School of Nursing, and Radiology to name a few. Other schools that also utilize Tandberg systems are U of Idaho, Idaho State, U of Oregon, Oregon State, as well as many federal and state governments.
