Collaboration is the key to offering effective services for youth. By forming alliances, public libraries can accomplish a number of goals. These goals include becoming better informed about the needs of youth, finding new ways to inform them about library resources, and providing library services where youth can best use them. The following list of agencies and organizations are among those that libraries are partnering with to provide better services for Idahoans. Adult Basic Education (ABE) provides instruction to adults in reading, writing, math, speaking English, GED preparation, and computer literacy. The program aims at preparing learners to function as employees, family and community members. For more information visit their web site: www.nwlincs.org/idalincs/index.htm

Are you aware that by the first day of the 2006-07 school year all US school districts that receive federal funding for their meal programs - pretty much every district - must enact a wellness policy ? This requirement was signed into law by President Bush on June 30, 2004, as part of the Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act. By participating in the formulation of these policies, American physical educators have a rare opportunity to impact school district attitudes towards children's physical activity and nutrition. First, it's important to understand that federal mandates - especially unfunded ones - are almost always unpopular with local school boards. According to the US Constitution, public education is a local (state) responsibility and school boards do not like "outside" interference.

Technology Standards for School Administrators
TSSA Draft (v4.0)
The Collaborative for Technology Standards for School Administrators (TSSA Collaborative) has facilitated the development of a national consensus on what P-12 administrators should know and be able to do to optimize the effective use of technology. This consensus is presented by the Collaborative (November 2001) as Technology Standards for School Administrators (TSSA). The Collaborative believes that comprehensive implementation of technology is, in itself, large-scale systemic reform. Leadership plays a key role in successful school reform. The CollaborativeÕs standards, therefore, focus on the role of leadership in enhancing learning and school operations through the use of technology. These standards are indicators of effective leadership for technology in schools. They define neither the minimum nor maximum level of knowledge and skills required of a leader, and are neither a comprehensive list nor a guaranteed recipe for effective technology leadership. Rather, these standards are a national consensus among educational stakeholders of what best indicates accomplished school leadership for comprehensive and effective use of technology in schools. The standards challenge almost every school administrator in some areas, yet each individual standard is attainable by the professional education leader. Although a national consensus, in no way should these standards inhibit new development, innovation, or progress for schools or for school leadership.
