In summer reading books on winter sports seem particularly appealing: skating, skiing, curling, etc., all reek of cold, frosty days - anticipation of which makes sweltering temperatures a little more bearable! In winter the appeal is more one of anticipation: waiting for just the right weather conditions in which to participate in these sports. Either way, the books are here ...
We hope you'll find something here which appeals to you

Pairs skating consists of two skaters performing together. In ice dancing, partners carry out the artistic motions of dance on skates. Ice Hockey
Hockey was first brought to North America when British soldiers stationed in Nova Scotia, Canada, played the earliest games. By the 1870s, a group of college students at McGill University in Montreal were organizing games and had developed the first known set of hockey rules. In accordance with this new set of regulations, known as the "McGill rules," a puck was substituted for a rubber ball and the number of players on a team was set at nine. The National Hockey League was formed in 1910; there are currently 30 clubs competing in the National Hockey League.

http://internettrash.com/users/roskate/info.html
Info Figure skating in Romania is not such a popular sport. Unfortunately there are only 4 covered ice rinks in the country. There are some other ice rinks too, but these are not covered, and some of them are not working at all. And even the covered ice rinks are closed from April till August. So, romanian figure skating has problems, and the finnancial situation is not helping much.Take a look at this map for more info. The yellow points represent uncovered ice rinks, while the red ones are the covered ice rinks. Here are some infos about every ice rink shown on the map.

This is the capital of the country. The Romanian Skating Federation headquarters is here. There is 1 covered ice rink, included in the National Sport Complex "Lia Manoliu". An uncovered ice rink is working too, being used only for public skating. There are 4 figure skating clubs in Bucuresti. This city hosts the ladies National Champion, Roxana Luca . Last two years the national team was practicing here. Buzau

By Lynn R. Kahle, James H. Warsaw Professor of Sports Marketing,
Warsaw Sports Marketing Center, University of Oregon In January, 2005, the U.S. Figure Skating Championships were held at the Rose Garden in Portland, Oregon. More than 100,000 spectators attended the event, and the $849 Gold Blade all-event passes sold out in less than 40 minutes from when they first went on sale. Michelle Kwan won the women’s title again, establishing that she is not just the Princess, but the Queen, of U.S. Figure Skating. She will continue to reap the benefits of being the premier athlete in this popular sport. This event reminded many Oregonians of our most famous local woman figure skater and former Olympian, Tonya Harding. She was one of the main reasons that nearly half of the television households in the U.S. watched the Women’s Figure Skating Short Program at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Norway, one of the highest-rated television broadcasts of any type of all time.
