Also on Encarta Compare online degrees Train for a better career College life Encarta word of the day At the beginning of the thirties it may be said that Communism under the leadership of Joseph Stalin abandoned the plans and agitations for world revolution and for a world-wide expansion of Communism, although of course the old terminology was still used from time to time. In reality Stalin's efforts were concentrated upon building up a Socialist order within the Soviet Union; and a quick modernization of her economic life was to change the country from a backward, agrarian, semioriental one into a progressive, industrialized, almost Americanized one. This new orientation expressed itself also in the Soviet foreign policy. The Soviet Union until then had refused to collaborate with the capitalistic powers and with the League of Nations which it regarded as a bulwark for the maintenance of the capitalist status quo.

The World Factbook Hungary Introduction Hungary Background: Hungary was part of the polyglot Austro-Hungarian Empire, which collapsed during World War I. The country fell under Communist rule following World War II. In 1956, a revolt and announced withdrawal from the Warsaw Pact were met with a massive military intervention by Moscow. Under the leadership of Janos KADAR in 1968, Hungary began liberalizing its economy, introducing so-called "goulash Communism." Hungary held its first multiparty elections in 1990 and initiated a free market economy. It joined NATO in 1999 and is scheduled to accede to the EU along with nine other states on 1 May 2004. In an April 2003 referendum, 84 percent voted in favor of joining the EU. Geography Hungary Location: Central Europe, northwest of Romania

Young people in Canada: their health and well-being - Chapter 1: Introduction
The first Health Behaviour in School-Aged Children (HBSC) survey was administered in 1982 by a small group of researchers from three countries - England, Finland, and Norway - to measure a range of adolescent health behaviours and a number of social and environmental variables. Four years later, the World Health Organization (WHO) (Europe) began to sponsor the survey, which had expanded to include 11 countries. The international HBSC research group invited Queen's University, in partnership with Health Canada, to take part in the 1989-90 survey as an associate member. Canada has participated as a full member in three further HBSC surveys conducted in 1993-94, 1997-98, and 2001-02. The HBSC surveys are now administered every four years to a representative sample of 11-, 13, and 15-year-olds in 35 participating countries. The population health approach, modelled by WHO and Health Canada, is the underlying framework for the HBSC survey. It acknowledges a broad set of determinants of health behaviours that shape the health of children and youth: social, economic, and political factors; psychological, genetic, and biological factors; gender; personal health practices; community resources; and the physical environment (Health Canada, 1994; 1996). Such determinants do not act in isolation from each other. Rather, it is the complex interaction among them that has an impact on the health of individuals and communities (Health Canada, 2000). Consequently, a full range of individual, social, and environmental factors are considered both in defining population health status and in developing programming and policies to improve health.

This is a list of all the long descriptions that are still needed. The descriptions should be from 4 and 60 lines and in the present, not the future tense (as many charters are). The longer the description the better, as long as it is not repetitive or drawn out. So if you can either cut and past a charter from a faq or write your own description it would be MOST appreshated. (If the entire is stared you may want to wait before you cut and past a charter, see below) It will help this list go down and will make the Usenet Info Center get somewhere. The longer the description the better, as long as it is not repetitive or drown out. To submit a description start the Subject line with either "D: " or "Desc:" and follow it by the newsgroups name (the space after the colon is important so please don't leave it out.) The body of the message should be the description. The message should be sent to UseNet-b@clark.net For example here would be a submission for rec.arts.startrek.current: From: Kevin Atkinson

In other words, the writer is using the enigma of the short poetry form. Having us believe one thing, just to, in the next phase force us understand the true meaning...after contemplating what he really says.

A caterpillar,
this deep in fall
still not a butterfly.
....Is a poem about death. The first thought that comes to mind when reading this haiku, is that the writer is describing a strong and tough animal. That the caterpillar in this case is a superior one, that takes all summer and into fall to become a butterfly. However, this is not what the poem means...This poem is saying that sadly it is never going to be a butterfly at all...Winter is coming. /thanks Bill, for teaching me life.
