Introduction
Konda is a river in Western Siberia, a tributary of the mighty Ob. Marshy forests surround Konda's shores. This is the Ugra land, a place of some heretofore-unsolved ancient mysteries. The land has populated by various tribes since ancient times, as far back as the Mesolithic age. They left behind many tombs, settlements, artifacts and unsolved mysteries. One of them is the legend of the Golden Woman ( Zolotaya Baba in Russian; baba is an archaic term for a woman; used today mostly as a slang word, demeaning to women; it also means grandma). Ethnography Today the territory of the Ugra land is better known as the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug (District). The language of Khanty and Mansi belongs to Finno-Ugric family that includes also the languages of Hungarians, Estonians, Saames, Udmurts, and Komis, etc.

About 10 years ago Etnofon Records joined those who aimed with their efforts at lifting Hungarian folk music and the music of nations living with Hungarians to the range of "feast" again. Etnofon has prepared the festival program according to this aim. Our publishing company, which sets its goal to be the broadcaster of music with folklore origin eleven years ago, thinks that this legend is a timely symbol again.

28. From Trianon To The First Vienna Arbitral Award
According to hungarian mythology, the pagan priestmagicians sacrificed whitehorses to obtain the favour of the Lord God of Hosts.

From Trianon to the First Vienna Arbitral Award borderline north at points some 30-40 km from the existing line along the Hungarian inhabited belt. Under German pressure, Hungary had to sacrifice Pressburg and its immediate vicinity. Even a plebiscite was not allowed there by the German "allies". With the support of Ciano, the Magyars wanted to obtain some villages around Nyitra where the Hungarian district reached north of the city. The Slovaks thought that, they could keep Nyitra (pop. 21,000), the seat of an old Roman Catholic bishopric, through the intervention of the Vatican.(44) Esterhazy demanded for the Hungarian minority, which would remain in Slovakia after the arbitration, cultural and religious rights, guaranteed in an international treaty, and enforced by the Slovak autonomous government. He had a long and frustrating experience in the CSR for securing the minority rights guaranteed in the peace treaty of Saint-Germain, and disregarded by the Prague government. Following the visit of Ribbentrop to Italy, Ciano was informed by the German ambassador in Rome that the German Foreign Minister had agreed to give Kassa, Ungvar and Munkacs to Hungary.(45) The Duce approved the strategy for the Vienna conference. With these preparations, Ciano was ready to defend once more in Vienna Hungarian interests based on the ethnic principle contrary to Ribbentrop's malevolent idea of using the conference as a vehicle to place the small nations in Central Europe under direct Gertnan control.

Each myth is the product of a certain culture; therefore, Arany s poeticrecreation of hungarian mythology is the most memorable in Death of Buda (1863)
http://www.oszk.hu/kiadvany/hsr/2000/myth.htm
I. Myth:
The Foundation of Historical Consciousness Myth has several definitions - partly because there are several kinds of myth. Generally, it can be defined as an independent story, or a set of interrelated ones, which explains humanity's place in the universe and society. Each myth is the product of a certain culture; therefore, it reflects the values and the frame of reference of a specific society. While classical myths transfer the familiar human world onto a magical and allegorical plane, in their more recent forms myths can narrate seemingly quite authentic events in a realistic manner. This definition is suited to the readings pertinent to our studies. There are two major mythological themes. One deals with the origins and order of the world, and introduces divine characters. Hungarians did not have such myths, nor an explanation for the creation of mankind. Little is known about the Magyars' ancient religion - it is assumed that, unlike other ancient peoples, they worshipped a single God. Their rich mythological tradition relies on the other major theme: the deeds of human heroes who represent a cultural consciousness and ethos. Perhaps it is their vivid, realistic narrative that has made these mythical stories dear to Hungarians. At the threshold of general literacy, historians often lacked earlier models to follow, and had to rely on tales or - if available - accounts from foreign sources. Such was the dilemma that Anonymous, already mentioned in the introduction, faced. As an early historian, he claimed credit not only for recording the naive tales of country people but also for being the first one to turn to written sources. Yet, his Latin chronicle actually made lavish use of the oral tradition still flourishing in his time - that is, in the very first years of the thirteenth century.

Singing the Cordon Blues
by Robert Bell
Now that my wife and I have two full-time jobs and a child, I must learn to cook.
I've been postponing cooking for a long time. I pleaded for an exemption on religious grounds: if the good lord wanted men mucking around in the kitchen, he wouldn't have given women little callused fingertips to hold hot food.
I argued on pragmatic grounds that people of all political persuasions, creeds, and ilks have maintained the sexual division of labor. My wife ran the kitchen and tended the garden while I hunted elephants; she shopped twice a week and I rotated the automobile tires annually. In this way we maintained mutual respect and could each claim to be a credit to his or her gender.
I argued in terms of genetic inheritance. To me it seemed evident, despite fashionable opinions to the contrary, that people inherit interests and skills. I myself was not born to cook. There are always too many things to remember and I become confused under pressure. It wasn't pure theory that persuaded me that skills are inherited. It was also practical experience in Organic Chemistry lab.
I set a modern day Dartmouth record for lowest score on a final examination by a non-football player. I got off on the wrong foot, if you can get "off on," by trying to brown-nose the lab assistant. He was a senior chem major with a straight A average. "Jeez, Cedric," I lick-spittled, :with that GPA, what med school will you go to?" He replied with pure disdain, "Med school? I'm not a mechanic. I'm a scientist!"

Solar deity
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
The Trundholm Sun Chariot pulled by a horse is believed to be a sculpture illustrating an important part of Nordic Bronze Age mythology.
Sun god redirects here. For other uses, see Sun God (statue)
A solar deity is a deity who represents the sun , or an aspect of it. People have worshipped the sun and solar deities for all of recorded history . Hence, many beliefs and legends have been formed around this worship, most notably the various myths containing the "missing sun" motif from around the world. Although many sources contend that solar deities are generally male, and the brother, father, husband and/or enemy of the lunar deity (usually female), this is not cross-culturally upheld, as sun goddesses are found on every continent. Some mythologists, such as Brian Branston , therefore contend that sun goddesses are more common worldwide than their male counterparts. They also claim that the belief that solar deities are primarily male is linked to the fact that a few better known mythologies (such as those of ancient Greece and Egypt ) sometimes break from this rule. The dualism of sun/male/light and moon/female/darkness is found in many (but not all)
