Hungarian Cultural introduction in France 2001.

During the Hungarian Cultural introductory season from 1st June 2001 to December 31st 2002 visitors had access to as many as 800 programmes in 250 French cities. Our aspirations were aimed at presenting historical, artistic and cultural values from Hungary towards not only a narrow stratum of intellectuals but also the general public. We put emphasis on keeping our millenary cultural heritage in the foreground as well as recall the manifold historical and other relations by which the French and Hungarian culture are intertwined, without which the present-day dynamically developing Hungary would never exist. On the French side co-ordination particulars were commissioned by the AAFA Art Foundation, a part of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to various French institutes, museums, art galleries and individuals, L’Institut Francais in Budapest, and last, but not least, coordinators of the new French ministerial commissioner Mr. Bernard Faivre (appointed in November 2000), who has valuable experience having been responsible for the Avignon Festival. On the Hungarian side it was Mr. Mikl³s Szab³, ministerial commissioner’s office in charge of the planning and Hungarofest Kht. Responsible for all other tasks including logistics, co-ordination and organisation with their French office being in the Hungarian Institute in Paris. The opening event of the season was held on June 12 2001 in the Chatelet theatre in Paris where the Paris Orchestra, conducted by Pierre Boulet, played Prince Bluebeard of Bart³k as well as his Music for Percussions and Celesta.

First of all, I'm not a linguist, not even an arts scientist. I'm trying not to use the technical terms of grammar (since I don't know them in English :-)
If you search for a grammar book on Hungarian language, one of your first hits may be "Teach Yourself Hungarian". However, I personally do not recommend this book. Why? Just two reviews (borrowed from amazon.com Teach Yourself Hungarian could do a little better. It's great if you're going to visit Hungary and not gain full proficiency, but it seems to fail being an effective grammatical text. First mistake it starts off with dialogs, afterwards giving you a lengthy vocabulary list. The book may be for you if you can learn off of phrases alone, rather than taking apart each phrase and looking at a language word-by-word. If you are truly looking to 'teach yourself', may it be suggested to try something else. lennen@erols.com

http://www.indianembassy.hu/culture.html
INDO-HUNGARIAN CULTURAL RELATIONS In the field of culture, the relationship between India and Hungary has always been co-operative and vibrant. The relationship can be said to have been pioneered by the great Hungarian Indologist Alexander Korosi de Csoma (first half of 19th century) who died in India and enriched by fond memories of the visit of Rabindranath Tagore to Hungary in 1926. The Hungarian language is taught in Delhi University while Sanskrit (for more than a century) and Hindi are taught in Hungarian universities. New Delhi enjoys the distinction of hosting the only Hungarian Cultural Centre in Asia which celebrated its 20th anniversary in 1998. Catering to the deep-rooted interest in Indian culture in Hungary, several cultural activities have been undertaken by the Mission from time to time, with the support of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and the Hungarian Ministry of Culture. The Indo-Hungarian Friendship Association set up in 1988 is very active. Many cultural activities relating to India are organised by Hungarian municipalities and cultural organisations, with the full support of the Indian Embassy. Highly professional Hungarian artists trained in Indian classical music and dance perform regularly on such occasions. Cultural Exchange Programme (CEP) During the official visit of Hungarian Prime Minister H.E. Mr. Peter Medgessy to India from 2-8 November 2003, a bilateral agreement on Cultural Exchange Programme (CEP) between India and Hungary was signed in New Delhi. Under this agreement, several bilateral cultural programmes are envisaged for the next three years.

It also includes some names from the Okros album, including Csaba Okros, Balough (who's cimbalom playing on "Tune From Maramaros" is one of the highlights of the album) and Sebestyen adds a few vocals. It is the music itself that makes this album such a treat, the mix of Hungarian delivery and Jewish verve and pathos makes it stand out from anything else you have heard. KAMPEC DOLORES This band has taken the folk rock of England and the jazz of New York's downtown scene and married it with a touch of Hungarian roots to make Levitation (ReR Megacorp, 19-23 Saviors Rd., London SW2 5HP, England). Hungary's ties to the gypsies and other eastern sources bleed into everything this group does, making what is otherwise a hard rock album seem ethereal and aloof. Modal sax lines and thundering tom-tom drums clash with electric guitars and Glass-like repetitive synth lines. Over all this heavy handed instrumentation is a wispy female vocalist, Gabi Kenderesi, who also adds some violin in the mix. Musikas meets Fairport Convention, and talks about Kate Bush's punk years.
