(Go to Bottom of Web page for other links) The dominant reformer in the generation after Luther and Zwingli was John Calvin, a French theologian who settled in Geneva in 1536. Calvin's reforms were not as radical as those of Zwingli, but they were accompanied by a severe regime that in effect combined church and state in order to enforce moral and doctrinal conformity. Calvin wrote the first systematic exposition of Protestant theology, set up a democratic presbyterian church government, and founded influen tial educational institutions that trained men such as John Knox, who introduced Calvinism into Scotland, where it became the established Presbyterian church. Calvinism also spread to France, where its adherents were known as < I> Huguenots and to Holland, where it reinforced the Dutch determination to achieve independence from Catholic Spain. Huguenots, name given to the Protestants of France from about 1560 to 1629. Protestantism was introduced into France between 1520 and 1523, and its principles were accepted by many members of the nobility, the intellectual classes

Huguenots and Walloons
By Lorine McGinnis Schulze These sections of Picardy, except Guines and Boulonnais, were on one or more of its three principal rivers, the Somme, the Oise and the Aisne. The river Oise [note: could this be where the surname d'Oiselle came from?] stretched westward to Guise in the same district and ran southwesterly to the Seine, parallel to the coast. BASHORE GENEALOGY
S o, you are here for some insight, and hopefully, information on your line of the Bashore's. Well, my line of Bashore's came from/or currently living in OH, PA, or TN. The Bashore name most likely came from a French name of LeBaisuer or LeBaissuer (though this hasn't been excepted by many genealogist). Meaning, "one who kisses". Already we're getting into some cool stuff on genealogy. The LeBaisuer's were French Huguenots that were percecuted and fled France to other near by countries. Because of this the name had be corrupted many times over through contact with the Germans and English. Some of these names are as follows: Of course, BASHORE, BAYSHORE, BASHAIR, BASHOR, BASORE, BAISEUR, BOESZHAAR, BASOR, BASEHOR, BASEHORE, BASEHERE, BAYSORE, BAYSHOUR, BACUSORE, BASOUR, BAYSOUR, BASHAR, BASORE, BOESHORE, BOSHAAR, BASSIERE, BASEU, BOESHAAR, BAISSEUR, BESOR, BEASHORE, BASHIR, BASHAW, BASHOHR, BAZEMORE, BEISSER, BESHORE, BAUSCHER, BOSOHORE. And, there are many more. Yes! They are all real names. And they all have some similarities, too!

Tracing French Ancestry Q: Could you supply me with any information as to how to find information about ancestors from France? I have two versions of the story. The first version is that my ancestors came from Nantes and were French Huguenots. The second version says that they came with Lafayette to fight in the American Revolution. The family name is Fancher, sometimes spelled Francher or Fancier. Any ideas on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated. Caroline A: You will want to be sure that you are not overlooking valuable records because you have these stories. It is one of the temptations that researchers must fight against. Often, when a family story talks about a relationship, like yours does, it is hard to resist the temptation to head right for records on the Huguenots or for those who traveled with Lafayette. By doing that, however, you could overlook records with clues to where your family truly came from. While you continue to work from the known to the unknown in the researching of your lineage, you can begin to amass some information about the Huguenots and those who fought with Lafayette in the American Revolution.
