    Winsock Programmer's FAQ
    Section 3: Intermediate Winsock Issues
Winsock proper does not provide a way for you to speak these protocols, because it only deals with the layers underneath these application-level protocols. However, there are many ways for you to get your program to speak these protocols. The easiest method is to use a third-party library. The Resources section lists several of these. If you only need to speak the HTTP, FTP or gopher protocols, you can use the WinInet library exposed by Microsoft's Internet Explorer. Newer versions of Microsoft's development tools include components that make accessing WinInet simple. Finally, you can always roll your own. You should start by reading the specification for the protocol you want to implement. Most of the Internet's protocols are documented in RFCs . The Important RFCs page links to the most commonly referenced application-level RFCs. The complexity of the protocols vary widely, and the only way to gauge the difficulty of implementing the protocol is to read the relevant RFC(s). HTTP, for example, is a pretty simple protocol, but the authors of its RFC managed to fill 176 pages talking about it. Most RFCs aren't that pretentious, luckily. If you've read the RFC and still can't figure the protocol out, try asking on Usenet. There are many newsgroups dedicated to particular application protocols: most are in the comp.protocols.* hierarchy. Failing that, you can ask in one of the general

    Introduction
The beginner section covered the basics of layout and positioning of form elements in your web page to improve the accessibility of your forms. In this section we'll look at some specific elements that you can add to your forms that will go even further in insuring that your pages are usable and accessible by the widest possible audience.
Stick a Label On It that says 'I Am Accessible!'
Without doubt, one of the most useful tags you can use to make a form more accessible is the
    What does the label do?
The label is a signpost. It tells the browser/user agent/screen reader: "Hey, you see that form input over there? The one called 'firstname'? Well, that belongs to me and make no mistake about it". Or, as you would have it in the more sober world of XHTML: <label for="firstname">First Name</label><br />

    96. JavaScript - Intermediate DOMs
This page treats the two intermediate DOMs and a bit of the Level 1 DOM. Where the Level 0 DOM only provided access to a limited number of html elements
    http://www.quirksmode.org/js/dom.html
    Intermediate DOMs
The Document Object Model (DOM) is the model that describes how all elements in an HTML page, like input fields, images, paragraphs etc., are related to the topmost structure: the document itself. By calling the element by its proper DOM name, we can influence it.
This page treats the two Intermediate DOMs and a bit of the Level 1 DOM. Goal is to teach you how to write cross-browser DHTML. For general information about DOMs, a bit of history and the Level DOM, see the Level DOM page. For the new W3C DOM, see the Level 1 DOM page.
    Definitions
First of all, I'll talk a lot about the Intermediate and the Advanced DOMs. My definitions are:
    • The Intermediate DOMs document.layers ) and Microsoft ( document.all
    • The Advanced DOMs are the two Intermediate DOMs plus W3C's Level 1 DOM . We need all these three DOMs for proper cross-browser DHTML.
On this page I first give some general principles of the advanced DOMs, then I describe the three advanced DOMs as far as they relate to DHTML
  • Level 1 DOM
  • document.all
  • document.layers I don't think I'll ever research the non-DHTML aspects of the two Intermediate DOMs. They're on the way out and compared to the Level 1 DOM they're too restrictive to be of much interest.
    The advanced DOMs
Where the Level DOM only provided access to a limited number of HTML elements, from the Version 4 browsers onwards, browser makers have tried to make the DOM more generic, so as to provide access to all elements on an HTML page and to give us web programmers a way to play with their properties. Not everything works in all browsers, but progress is being made.

    Prologue
    Key Concepts:
    • Recent CMB experiments have revealed sound waves in the fine angular scale structure of the temperature anisotropies. Sound waves can be used to probe the infant universe as a kind of cosmic ultrasound The era of precision cosmology has begun
According to the theory of the Big Bang , the universe started hot and dense and then expanded and cooled. In the hot, dense conditions of the early universe, photons were tightly glued to matter . When the universe was about 300,000 years old the temperature dropped below 3,000K allowing atomic hydrogen to form and releasing the photons. These photons, which travelled freely through the universe as it expanded and cooled, make up the cosmic microwave background (CMB) we see today. Ten to twenty billion years after the Big Bang, the CMB is a cold sea of photons with an average temperature of 2.7K (-270 C). These photons are all around us, causing about 1% of the noise on our television sets. (For a more thorough introduction to the CMB please see the sister pages: An Introduction to the Cosmic Microwave Background.
