WEEKLY THERAPY/SUPPORT GROUPS FOR:
  • ADULTS WITH OCD (Introductory Group)
  • ADULTS WITH OCD (Advanced Group)
  • ADULTS WITH TRICHOTILLOMANIA
  • ADULTS WITH COMPULSIVE SKIN PICKING
In addition to individual therapy, the OCD Center of Los Angeles offers three weekly therapy/support groups. One group is for adults with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) who have not had experience with Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT). A second group is limited to individuals with OCD who have completed a course of CBT. We also offer a weekly group for adults with Compulsive Hair Pulling (Trichotillomania) and Compulsive Skin Picking (Dermatillomania). Below is information on each group.
NEW Introductory OCD Therapy/Support Group for Adults - Starting March 2005 The OCD Center of Los Angeles is starting a new weekly group specifically for adults with OCD who have not been treated with Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT). The group will provide a structured format focusing on a highly specialized type of CBT known as "Exposure and Response Prevention" (ERP). This therapy has been extensively researched, and has consistently been found to be the most effective treatment for OCD. The primary goal of this group will be to provide a venue in which group members can do the “exposure” assignments that are the foundation of CBT. Research has shown that group Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy can be extremely helpful in the treatment of OCD. Quite often, people with OCD have never met another person with the disorder, and feel extremely isolated due to the secretive nature of their obsessions and compulsions. This group will provide a safe and supportive environment in which people can address their symptoms with others who are also working to overcome OCD. Group sessions will include individual members tackling specific OCD symptoms that have been particularly problematic. Group members will discover that trying new, more productive strategies for coping with OCD is often easier with the support of other group members who know just how difficult it is to face one's fears.

A Psychoeducational Site
Welcome
If knowledge is what you seek, then you've come to the right place...
So sit back, relax and take off your shoes
Welcome to my site. It is my personal goal to make this a knowledge bank of information while, at the same time, provide you with a support system unlike any you have ever encountered before. While I do not have my M.D. degree, nor am I a psychiatrist, I do have my M.A. in psychological counseling. While there are some things I cannot offer, I can offer you what I've already learned from my textbooks, my experience, my intuition, and the information that I've obtained off the net.
I'd also like to make you aware that your wise friends and relatives (as well meaning as they may be) are not doctors either. Only you and your doctor can determine the best customized treatment plan for you. I hope that this site can help you better understand this illness and please remember that the information that you find on this site is only intended as an aid to understand and/or come to terms with your diagnosis. The first step on the path to psychological growth is to obtain a correct diagnosis. This point cannot be stressed enough with regard to this important issue.

Gateway to online support groups for men and women. Currently supporting groups divided by religion, age, disease, and other factors. Services include bulletin boards and group meetings (both for members only able to join online).
    http://www.geocities.com/theodatgroup/index.html
The One Day At a Time Group is dedicated to serving men and women who have eating disorders and who want to work a program with others.
The ODAT Group is made up of many lists and meetings and we will be adding more as time goes on. Our community is composed of religious and secular lists but our one common theme is the desire to recover from an eating disorder. As you get to know us, you will find that most of our support loops for compulsive eaters have a special focus. We find that by sharing our experience, strength and hope with others like ourselves leads to a quicker and more meaningful recovery and our mission is to provide a safe place to do that.
The only requirement to join our support community is to have a desire to recover from our eating disorder. By participating in our loops and working an honest recovery program, we will reach our goals one day at a time.
Although many of our members are also members of Overeaters Anonymous and The Recovery Group, we are not affiliated with either of these organizations but have great respect for both.
The ODAT Group has a melting pot of sorts ... a place where members of all our loops can gather. It is called

RESTORING HOPE AFTER A DEATH BY SUICIDE Home
    Founded in Loving Memory of
    Rob Wirick and Mark Slade
SURVIVORS ROAD2HEALING is a nonprofit Christian support organization for those that have felt the devastation of suicide. We're here for those that are groping their way through the pain of being left behind, to help them work through issues of guilt, God, anger, etc. We'll help you find hope for a future again, and reclaim your life. Although there are now many organizations striving to make a difference with Suicide Prevention issues, (thank God for them!) there is still very little to help a grieving, struggling survivor. Survivors Road2healing is here for the sole purpose of helping Survivors heal and reclaim their lives. We work with local Police Departments, and community organizations and plan to have offices nationwide in the next few years. Survivors will be able to walk in and get FREE counseling and peer support, as well as online help in our private chatrooms. Please take a minute and seriously consider a donation to help make this happen. No one knows the need for this like us survivors do!! You can read more about our plans at

    What is Trichotillomania?
The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition (DSM-IV) (American Psychiatric Association, Washington, DC, 1994) defines Trichotillomania as:
Recurrent pulling out of one's hair resulting in noticeable hair loss.
Increasing sense of tension immediately before pulling out the hair.
Pleasure, gratification, or relief when pulling out the hair.
Not better accounted for by another mental disorder and not due to a general medical condition (e.g., a dermatological disorder).
Results in substantial distress and/or interferes with functioning.
Not all patients who pull out their hair meet these strict criteria. In fact, many do not experience a growing sense of tension before pulling. Nonetheless, they frequently have a distressing problem that might very well benefit from treatment.
