Organizing Tools for Spring Cleaning By: Monica Ricci Setting The Tone For An Organized Year Spring is coming and this spring you decided to get organized but may still have no idea how to begin. You've probably heard the old adage that "having the right tool is half the job." This wisdom applies to organization as well. You can't get organized if you don't have the right tools to get the job done. Here are five organizing ideas to get your home or office categorized, organized and simplified.
  • Clipboards.
Hang several clipboards with different types of information on wall hooks in your home. Label them with large letters so they can be easily identified from a distance. They can be used for keeping mail, bills, client invoices, driving directions, catalogs, kids' schedules and paperwork from school, emergency numbers, neighborhood or family phone lists, coupons, chore sheets or your shopping list. With a new baby, or as a family grows, many mothers get that out-of-control feeling, as tasks that seemed effortless before children suddenly take longer-and all of a sudden, the house looks messier than it ever did before. For Emily Mellgren of Rockville, Maryland, USA, trying to get out of the house after her second baby was born had become an ordeal. Just getting everyone dressed, fed, packing bags, and getting out the door was taking almost as long as the outing itself. And she didn't like the feeling of being out of control.
Mothers who have worked outside the home and then plan to stay home full-time sometimes have high expectations of how great the house will look once they are home. In fact, many new mothers discover that it's harder than ever to find time for the basics such as cooking, cleaning, or even taking a shower. When a new mother is home all day there is much more work to do than there was while she was employed-there are more meals to cook, more laundry to do, and more messes to clean up. Long, uninterrupted stretches of time to clean are no longer available. Adhering to a strict cleaning schedule can seem impossible to the mothers of breastfeeding infants.

    How To Organize Your: HOME
How to organize your home? A HOME FOR EVERYTHING AND EVERYTHING IN ITS PLACE. Every item you have, no matter what it is, should have a designated home. For instance, the home for your magazines might be your magazine holder, which is located on your bookshelf. Or your home for your extra file folders and labels, might be the top shelf of your office supplies cabinet.
If an item doesn't have a specific home, it's considered to be 'homeless.' Something that is homeless, tends to get lost.
Designate a specific home for all of your stuff. Then, be sure that everything taken, gets returned to its home when done being used. Continued, click here Organize your kitchen, closet, office, garage with a label maker! Kitchen

Spring Cleaning: 5 Steps to an Organized Clothes Closet
by Stacey Agin Murray I f you can't look at your wool pants, boots, and flannel pajamas anymore, salvation is just around the corner. The snow that blanketed us this winter has melted and before you know it, we'll all be wearing shorts and sandals again. You may be ready for warmer weather but is your closet? Below is a 5-step strategy for cleaning out your clothes closet and making it ready for the next season:
    Step 1
Pick a weekend day for spring cleaning your closet. This task takes time and energyit should not be done in its entirety after a long day at work.
    Step 2
On 'Spring Cleaning Your Closet Day,' set up three garbage bags or boxes near your closet. Label one 'Throw Away,' and label the other two 'Donate,' and 'Repair.' These bags/boxes will assist you as you sort and purge your clothing.
    Step 3
Sort through and purge the clothes from this season first. Start with tops (sweaters, turtlenecks, etc.) then move on to bottoms, undergarments, shoes, and accessories. When sorting, keep your eyes open for the following:

National Resource Center on AD/HD www.help4adhd.org This information and resource sheet will explain:
      • why adults with ADHD have trouble with organization how to improve organizational skills at the home and office how to stay organized
It may be helpful to have a notebook handy when reading this sheet, for taking notes and completing written exercises designed to improve organizational skills. It may also be helpful to designate a bulletin board or other space on which to post organizational notes and reminders.
Why Do Individuals with ADHD Have Trouble With Organization?
When analyzing organizational abilities, it is useful to view the classic symptoms of inattention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity in terms of an executive function model. Executive functions are the brain's higher order cognitive processes that regulate and manage learning activities and behavior. Just as the conductor of an orchestra guides and directs the orchestra, executive functions guide and direct the individual's thoughts and actions1,2. Effective organization requires efficient operation of executive brain functions. To organize a room, the individual must be able to develop an organizational plan, devise a system of categories for organizing objects in the room, sort the objects accurately into the categories, put the objects in each category in appropriate containers, place the containers in a designated location, and remove or discard extraneous objects. The individual must be able to attend to a great deal of detail and persist at the task until it has been completed. Individuals with ADHD have difficulties with these executive functions, and as a result often have difficulty with organizing.

Organize Your Closet, Organize Your Life
Organizing closet space can be likened to adding additional floor space to your home or office. The more that fits into the closet, the less need for dressers, armoires and other furniture in a room. There are various ways to organize your space. You may have a professional consultant come to your home to suggest ways to create more space in your area, or you can provide your own measurements and other information to help the designers create a plan for you. Some companies only do the whole project to control quality and honor their guarantees; others will allow you to choose between professional installation or installing their products yourself. There are four basic types of closet organization systems: long hanging, short hanging, shelves and baskets/drawers (to organize accessories jewelry, belts, and ties).
