Hockey field renovations
The Montgomery Hockey/Tennis arena has been extended by eight metres to the south and two metres to the east, to enable the previous six tennis court configuration to become twelve, and for the hockey arena to be set out to full international standards. A whole new surface is being applied, with a shock pad underlay. This provides for the development of greater hockey skills and protects against shin soreness and knee injuries. In addition, a small pavilion is being built which will provide spectator viewing, storage of the various nets and tennis equipment. The whole complex was completed early in December. Created: January 1999. Last modified: 3 March 1999.

Aims of the Montgomery Club
The Montgomery Club is a new Club formed within the Scotch Parents Association to support Hockey at Scotch College. The Club's name recognizes Bob Montgomery - a wonderful benefactor of the College, who in 1922 donated funds to convert horse-grazing land into a grass hockey pitch, the Montgomery Sports Field. The Club was formed on May 11th at a meeting of interested Hockey parents with the following aims;
  • To support, promote and raise the profile of hockey at Scotch; To support the administration and coaching staff of hockey at Scotch; To encourage all members of hockey teams to achieve their full potential both individually and collectively; To provide a forum for, and to organize functions to bring together, all of the Scotch hockey community; To raise money for the above objects and purposes by such methods as the Club thinks fit.
Office bearers, committee members and year level coordinators were elected all of who are named in the latest "Torch". Since then the committee has met fortnightly to create a constitution, name, logo and integrate with the Parents association but more importantly design activities to meet our aims. Our name recognizes Bob Montgomery

Indoor field hockey
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Indoor field hockey is an indoor variant of "traditional" outdoor field hockey . It is not to be confused with other indoor hockey variants such as rink hockey Indoor hockey field Indoor field hockey is commonly called indoor hockey in the countries where rink hockey is not played. It is traditionally and mainly played as a pastime by outdoor field hockey players during the off-season, when the outdoor pitches are frozen. Indoor field hockey is played in regular national and international championships. The first Indoor field hockey cup was organized in 2003. It included countries which do not compete at the highest level of the outdoor game. Indoor field hockey differs from its outdoor parent in several ways:
  • The playing field is smaller than the outdoor pitch. An indoor pitch is 18m to 22m wide by 36m to 44m long, divided by a center line. The shooting circle is a semi-circle measured out 9m from each goal post. Side-board planks mark the sidelines helping to keep the ball in the field. The pitch is made of wood or synthetic gum. The goal cages are smaller: 2m high by 3m wide and a minimum of 1m deep.

About Field Hockey
One of the world's most popular games, field hockey is also one of the world's oldest competitive team sports. Evidence of games played with a ball and stick date back over 4,000 years to the Nile Valley Egypt, and similar games were played by civilizations ranging from the Greeks and Romans to the Ethiopians and Aztecs. The modern game of field hockey evolved in England during the 19th century and led to the creation of the sport's international federation, the Fédération Internationale de Hockey (FIH ) in 1924. After Constance Applebee introduced the sport to the United States in 1901, the United States Field Hockey Association was formed in 1922. The Olympic Games included men's field hockey on the official program for the first time in 1908, and women's field hockey earned a spot on the program in 1980. Hockey's most coveted international prize, the

    A Review of Field Hockey Injuries and Countermeasures for Prevention
    Full report in .pdf format
    Abstract:
    Executive Summary
    The aim of this report is to critically review both formal research literature and informal sources of information that describe preventive strategies and countermeasures to hockey injury. This review is informed by the analysis of hockey injury data, which provides a context for the identification of potentially effective interventions. Epidemiological studies in Australia and overseas have consistently shown that injuries in hockey are numerous and can be serious. The available evidence suggests that the majority of serious injuries result from being struck by the stick or the ball. Overuse injuries to the ankles and lower back are also frequently reported. Victorian emergency department presentation data shows that players aged between 10 and 19 years account for 50% of all hockey injuries. Most injuries presenting to hospital ED are to the face, hands, and lower limb. Being struck by an object, usually the stick or the ball causes most of these injuries. Injuries to the eyes tend to be comparatively serious when they do occur. There are few controlled evaluations of countermeasures to prevent hockey injury, so recommendations in this report are necessarily tentative. Potential countermeasures to injury are listed in Table 1. Where there is some supporting evidence for effectiveness, countermeasures for preventing hockey injuries include: penalties enforcing rules aimed at preventing dangerous use of the hockey stick and careless play of the ball; modified rules for children; use of protective equipment (such as shin guards and mouthguards); expert training of coaches and officials; pre-season conditioning; adequate nutrition; pre-game stretch and warm-up; prompt access to professional first aid and medical care; and full rehabilitation before returning to play.
