GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
The museum's primary goal is to provide a well-curated collection of specimens to be used for research and education by the communities to which it belongs: the University of Puget Sound, the Puget Sound region, and, in a broad sense, the world. Museums have an ever-increasing responsibility for the conservation of specimens as animal and plant populations are threatened by human activities, and the Slater Museum is one of the region's significant repositories for these specimens. Furthermore, museum collections serve as the primary sources of information about both spatial and temporal aspects of biodiversity anywhere in the world. To accomplish this, the museum will continue to enhance its collections, especially of regional animals and plants, and to search for orphaned collections to preserve. A secondary goal of the museum is to demonstrate and educate about the value of natural-history museums.

The New Museum Yad Vashem Home ► Overview The New Museum consists of the Holocaust History Museum-and within it the Hall of Names- the Museum of Holocaust Art, and the Exhibitions Pavilion. An online guide for anyone wishing to visit the New Museum can be accessed here. The New Holocaust History Museum A decade in the making, the new Holocaust History Museum combines the best of Yad Vashem’s expertise, resources and state-of-the-art exhibits to take Holocaust remembrance well into the 21st century . The new Holocaust History Museum occupies over 4,200 square meters, mainly underground. Both multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary, it presents the story of the Shoah from a unique Jewish perspective, emphasizing the experiences of the individual victims through original artifacts, survivor testimonies and personal possessions. Its 180 meters – long linear structure in the form of a spike cuts through the mountain with its uppermost edge – a skylight – protruding through the mountain ridge. Galleries portraying the complexity of the Jewish situation during those terrible years branch off this spike-like shaft, and the exit emerges dramatically out of the mountainside, affording a view of the valley below. Unique settings, spaces with varying heights, and different degrees of light accentuate focal points of the unfolding narrative. At the end of the Museum’s historical narrative is the Hall of Names—a repository for the Pages of Testimony of millions of Holocaust victims, a memorial to those who perished.
