Mythology mania
LOOKS LIKE the mythology bug has bitten junior NTR. too as plans are afoot to remake mammoth Daana Veera Soora Karna . And the mantle of directing this epic is likely to fall on V.V. Vinayak once again as he gave NTR two big hits in Adi and the latest Samba . All these days NTR kept saying that he is too young to play such roles, but the grapevine has it that discussions on the script and sets are on and NTR is also busy preparing himself to deliver the lengthy dialogues, with perfect diction that is required for such films. NTR is not new to mythology as he acted in Balaramayanam , but one has to see whether he is going to do all the three roles that of Duryodhana , Karna and lord Krishna, a la late NTR. G. Before every undertaking - be it laying of the foundation of a house, or opening of a shop or beginning any other work, blessings of Lord Ganesha are invoked by worshipping him first.
Ganesha has many names . The main ones are GANAPATI (lord of the tribe or attendants), VIGNESHWARA (controller of all obstacles), VINAYAKA (the prominent leader), GAJANANA (elephant faced), GAJADHIPATI (Lord of elephants), LAMBKARNA (long eared), LAMBODARA (pendant -bellied) and EKADANTA (having one tusk), GAJAVADANA (the elephant face), SHOORPA-KARNA (winnowing pan like ears), CHATURBHUJA (four hands) - three of them carrying Pasha (a rope), ANKUSHA (a spear-like weapon curved at one end) and MODAKA (a pudding like sweet dish) and the fourth held in a gesture which assures help and protection to the devotee, a beautiful body of red complexion - is how he is pictured. And he rides a mouse.
There is a story that Parvati created Ganesha with the outer dusty layers of her body. On the day of the Ganesha festival an earthen idol is worshipped. This reminds us of his relation to the earth. The idol has four hands. One right hand holds a Pasha. This is endowed with divine greatness. With the help of this, Ganesha attracts the minds of his devotees. The other hand bestows boons. This indicates that those who throw themselves on Ganesha's mercy need fear nothing. Similarly, one left hand carries an Ankusha. This is a symbol to show that Ganesha will destroy our ignorance. The other hand holds a vessel filled with Modakas. This shows that Ganesha brings joy to everyone.

The APSARAS , according to Hindu mythology, are heavenly nymphs who were originally associated with water and later with the countryside. According to the great epic, the Ramayana , their origin can be traced to the churning of the ocean. When the Apasaras emerged from the water, neither the gods nor the ASURAS wanted to marry them, so they belonged to everyone and were known as the “Daughters of Joy” .
The Apsaras are charming and beautiful dancers, and are said to be fond of games of chance. However, according to one tradition, they can also cause madness. They are sometimes said to live in fig trees and banana plants. BODHISATTVAS are “enlightenment begins” who are destined to become Buddha. They put off the moment when they will enter nirvana and escape the cycle of death and rebirth, in order that they may help others along the long part to enlightenment. Bodhisattva are thus living symbols of compassion.
According to Mahayana, or “Great Vehicle” Buddhism, human beings are some times able to enter paradise by means of a bodhisattva’s merits and spiritual power rather than through their own, provided that they call on the bodhisattva in faith.
