Sun - in Hindu Mythology By Anindita Basu H T he ancient Hindu scriptures known as the Puranas say that the Sun travels in a huge chariot that rises in the east and sets in the west and causes day and night. But he also makes first a northward and then a southward course in his travels over the year. The Vishnu Purana describes the Sun as turning his chariot toward the northern hemisphere in an annual event that will be taking place in a few weeks. The northward journey of the sun is called the Uttarayan and happens just after the winter solstice ( uttarayan bindu which occurs around December 22 each year. The Mother in Hindu Mythology
From The Path of the Mother
"You are Creation; you are creator; you are the breath of life in all nature. . . .Devi, Devi, Devi." -Ammachi
Once upon a time, a long time ago, while the gods were resting in the heavens, evil influences infested the world. The demonic forces, led by a powerful and unrighteous king, had become widespread and uncontrollable. A messenger was sent to alert the gods who were lost in deep sleep, but it took centuries to awaken them. By the time they opened their eyes, darkness pervaded the land. Wickedness prevailed. Once roused from their heavenly slumber, the gods with their mighty weapons were unable to vanquish the evildoers. The gods' weakness in the midst of the abominable and fierce turmoil allowed these vile powers to rage on. There was only one way to bring the world back into balance: Ask the Mother of the Universe to intervene.
The gods, fuming with anger, raced through the sky in their chariots to Devi's home on top of the mountain in the Himalayas.

Grand Lama During the last fifty years new attention has been paid to the systems of religion of the Eastern world, especially to that of Zoroaster among the Persians, and that which is called Brahmanism and the rival system known as Buddhism in the nations farther east. Especial interest belongs to these inquiries for us, because these religions are religions of the great Aryan race to which we belong. The people among whom they were introduced all used some dialect of the family of language to which our own belongs. Even young readers will take an interest in such books as Clarke's Great Religions and Johnson's Oriental Religions, which are devoted to careful studies of them.

The park promises to bring the Hindu pantheon to life Its backers describe it as the "world's biggest ever mythological theme park". Hindu gods such as Ram, Hanuman and Krishna will be the central attractions for a 'Disneyland on the Ganges' in India.
The aim of the 25 acre park, called Gangadham, is to recreate great moments in Hindu mythology through hi-tech rides, an animated mythological museum, a "temple city", food courts and a sound and light show. The park is to be on the banks of the Ganges, in the north Indian pilgrimage town of Haridwar. It is where the Hindu god Vishnu is said to have left his footprint. The town attracts more than 18 million visitors a year. "There is a huge amount of pilgrim traffic in Haridwar," says Shiv Sagar, the project's chief executive. "People come to take a bath on the bank of the Ganga river because it is a Hindu belief that this cleanses a person."

Indian cities offer a cornucopia of images: from brilliant billboards along the streets and facades, Bollywood posters in taxis, buses, restaurants and shops, to film, a steadily growing number of magazines, and the new omnipresence of the TV screen. This iconography of everyday Indian life is the subject of the exhibition Jyotindra Jain This exhibition presents, as a sensory experience, the creation and constant change, transformation, and the rediscovery of a visual world since the nineteenth century. In addition, it explores and reveals the colonial context and mutual reciprocity in the construction of identities with reference to gender, sexuality, ethnic origin, religion and power.

Mythology The adaptation of mythology, spiritualism and folklore to couch their games' backstory is a Bungie hallmark. Here we explore some possible origins of Myth character and place names in the context of Greek, Celtic, Welsh, Indian and Far East lores. Recompiled and edited by Forrest and David Bricker
Greek Mythology Gholsbane fleshes out a possible connections between the Trow, the great Trow city of Rhi'anon, and foundational Greek mythology. I believe the name Rhi'anon comes from the name Rhea, a greek Titan. Gaea, mother earth, gave life to the Titans and other earth gods, who were borne out of Chaos. You might say this is the same sort of thing that happenend with the Trow, who emerged from Wyrd's shattered one dream. Alternatively, there is a Welsh goddess called Rhiannon (no apostrophe) whose name derives from the word Rigantona meaning 'Great/Divine Queen. Only the name bears any resemblance to Myth. Cronus , or Kronos, husband to Rhea, was told one of his sons would kill him, so he ate his children as soon as they were born similar to the Trow wiping out any race as soon as they came into conflict with them. One of Cronus's children was special.

Itihasa
(Redirected from Hindu mythology
Hindu texts
  • Shruti
    • Vedas Smriti
      • Itihasa Itihasa Sanskrit thus verily happened ) refers collectively to the epic Hindu scriptures , detailing the actions of divine incarnations on earth while interspersing them with often large sections of philosophical and ethical discourse. Though they are often classified as 'Hindu' or 'Indian' 'mythology,' the label does not capture the centrality of religious and spiritual affiliations of the texts that ring true today for most Hindus. They are replete with long philosophical discourses and are often seen as sourcebooks for Hindu ethics and practice. A parallel would be to term the Old Testament 'Christian mythology'. The most important of these are the Ramayana and the Mahabharata , of which the Bhagavad Gita is part. They also include a voluminous group of works known as the puranas . The most famous purana is the Srimad Bhagavatam , a text especially important to Vaishnavs though also seen as holy by most Hindus.

Hi Daly,
Why I said what I have said. The reason being having lived and grown up
exactly what it means. I have seen both Christians and Muslims trying to
undermine our faith and to say it is false. I see no reason why they should
not be corrected.
it wrong to believe that the Word of God is truely a word of God ? Or is it
falsely about other peoples faith ?
