Programs not designated as proven may incorporate proven effective strategies, but lack the data collection to become an overall proven program. Life Skills Training (Middle and Early High School) – A scientific approach backed by 15 years of program evaluation research. A 12 unit comprehensive method of instruction addressing all of the most important factors leading adolescents to use drugs. Teaches a combination of health information, general life skills, and drug resistance skills. Comes with teacher resource book complete with lesson plans and student workbooks. Curriculum In a Box: Substance abuse 2002 (Middle and High School Level) – A successful drug prevention program based on developing healthy coping skills and a sense of personal responsibility and inner strength. Organizes 10 videos, 2 folding displays, and dozens of activities and fact sheets into a comprehensive overview and plan of attack for the dangers of substance abuse. (10) Turning Troubled Kids Around (Middle and High school Level) – A complete student assistance program designed for use by the busy educator and to help set up a school-based program for students who have problems with alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs. Turning Troubled Kids Around is a nine-step program based on the three broad concepts of problem, solution, and plan of action, all layed out in an easy to follow format.

Special Emphasis Area: Substance Abuse Treatment
The special emphasis in substance abuse provides an extensive training experience in the assessment and treatment of substance abuse and provides the opportunity to function as part of an interdisciplinary team including (but not limited to) psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, addiction therapists, and nurses. The team provides continuity of care by following a panel of patients across program elements. This training will prepare Fellows to assume clinical, academic, and/or administrative leadership positions wherever they may continue their clinical careers. Below are the specific objectives for this training experience.
Assessment and Diagnosis:
  • Diagnosis and classification of substance disorders and substance induced disorders, including an understanding of the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) placement criteria and the Addiction Severity Index (ASI). Protocols for co-morbid psychiatric disorders, neuro-cognitive function/impairment, and personality disorders.

6.1 Summary 1. Reliability of Rating For the S4-5 Chemistry Syllabuses, interrater agreements of at least 98.3 % and kappas of at least 0.982 were achieved in the content analyses among the researcher and two experienced chemistry teachers. On the other hand, interrater agreements of at least 96.6% and kappas of at least 0.964 were achieved in the content analyses of S4-5 chemistry textbooks. 2. Overall Inclusion of all STS Topics The overall inclusion of all STS topics in the new Chemistry Syllabus is 28.30 % while the value is 15.14 % in the old Chemistry Syllabus. On the other hand, the overall inclusion of all STS topics in new chemistry textbooks is 21.97% on average while the average value in old chemistry textbooks is 6.87%. 3.
