Increasingly complex issues face our health care system. Advances in genome research and the increased role of cost in health care delivery have dramatically hanged how healthcare is being delivered. Healthcare professionals, physicians and health lawyers need to understand more than just their own disciplines to work with and improve the healthcare system.
Franklin Pierce Law Center's Health Law and Policy program trains lawyers to represent clients seeking a more sensible, cost- effective and humane system for delivering healthcare. The success of the program lies in small size, individualization to the practice goals of each student, and hands-on experience. Because of the complexity of healthcare systems and the laws governing them, the program begins with learning the fundamentals o flaw and developing and understanding of the many players in the healthcare field. The curriculum is designed to keep required courses to a minimum and to balance the needs for general learning and for specialized knowledge and skills.
    JD/Certificate of Health Policy
The Health Law Policy and Law Certificate Program, in cooperation with the University of New Hampshire, allows law students, Master of Public Health Students, and others to study jointly the key elements of health policy development and the legal issues presented in connection with the delivery of healthcare. The goal of the program is to reduce the barriers between legally trained individuals and healthcare providers, thereby enhancing rational policy development and improved delivery of healthcare.

67. Division Of Medical Humanities, Health Law, And Ethics At The UConn School Of Me
The home page of the Division of Medical Humanities, health law, and Ethicsestablished in 1972 by the School of Medicine as one of the first in the country
http://www.commed.uchc.edu/medicalhumanities/
@import "css/medhumanities.css"; In 1972 the University of Connecticut School of Medicine established a Division of Humanistic Studies in Medicine in the Department of Community Medicine and Health Care ; it was one of the first medical schools in the nation to do so. Originally, the division was to focus primarily upon the growing discipline of biomedical ethics , but to include also the humanities health law became, under the late Jay Healey and his associates, a requirement for first-year medical and dental students and one of the most popular courses in the curriculum. Over the years, the Graduate Program in Public health, also located in the Department of Community Medicine, has drawn on the faculty of the Division and developed a required course in Public Health Law and offering others in the history of public health and ethical issues. Over the last 30 years, biomedical ethics, humanities, and law occupy an essential place in the medical, dental and public health curricula at the University of Connecticut. As the organization of heath care becomes more complex, and as business and commercial interests intrude on all aspects of medical practice, ethics, morality, jurisprudence, and legal issues have taken on more importance. In 1998 after an extensive strategic planning process, the division changed its name to the Division of Medical Humanities, Health Law and Ethics reflecting its roots in the humanities, medical jurisprudence in health care, and ethical issues, however its focus remained the same: educating tomorrow's health professionals to become compassionate, empathetic practitioners, investigating ethical and legal problems in clinical practice and biomedical research, scholarship, and service to the community.

50 States Summary of Breastfeeding Laws
8 December 2004. The National Conference of State Legislatures offers a summary of state laws on breastfeeding. According to the summary, 35 states have enacted legislation on breastfeeding issues. These include locations for breastfeeding, exemption from public indecency laws, breastfeeding in the workplace, jury duty for breastfeeding mothers and breastfeeding awareness campaigns. There are also a spattering of unique laws; for example, "Louisiana prohibits any child care facility from discriminating against breastfed babies." The summaries indicate the state, code citation, a brief description of the law and the originating legislation. (et)

Home Syllabus Unit 1: Organization Unit 2: ... Reform Health Care Law - Law 796 (3 cr) This course involves in a survey of the legal regulation of the quality of, access to, and financing of health care. Subjects addressed will include antitrust, contracts, medical malpractice, patient rights, licensure, and bio-ethical policy. Health law involves issues grounded in contracts, torts, corporation, antitrust, financing, administrative law and ethics There are many reasons to take health law. First, no other field can match the "magnitude, complexity, and universality of health care. Health law introduces lawyers to the problems confronted by the other great profession in the United States, medicine. Changes in medicine can directly affect not just what humans can do, but how humans think about being human (and, therefore, what rights and obligations humans should have). As issues of public health and safety capture center stage in American culture, the importance of prudent use of law to protect health and safety becomes central. Finally, issues of social justice and resource allocation are presented more starkly in the medical care context than in any other context.
