Marsh Admits Overcharging

State insurance regulators are investigating Marsh USA Ed Healy
In return for the $1.2 million in reimbursements, Marsh asked its clients to sign a release waiving their right to take legal action against the brokerage.
The Oregon Insurance Division decided to investigate after learning of the matter last week, said Cory Streisinger , Director of the Oregon Department of Consumer and Business Services.
Streisinger said Marsh deserves credit for admitting the overcharges and offering the reimbursements. But she was surprised to learn that Marsh had asked for legal releases in exchange.
School districts in Beaverton and Eugene were told by Marsh that they each had been overcharged more that since 2000, district officials told The Oregonian on Tuesday. Officials at Salern-Keizer schools and the Reynolds School District in Troutdale said they each had been overcharged by more than Healy said the overcharges were unrelated to accusations out of New York that the company masterminded widespread insurance bid-rigging Eliot Spitzer , New York attorney general, sued Marsh in October claiming the company collected more than $800 million from insurance companies in return for engineering sham bidding and steering them new business.

January 3, 2004 GOOD PARENT-DOCTOR RELATIONSHIPS MAY IMPROVE THE ADVICE PARENTS RECEIVE ABOUT KEEPING THEIR CHILDREN SAFE FROM INJURY
Parents more likely to follow advice if they trust their children’s doctors Parents whose children are at risk for child abuse and neglect may be reluctant to follow injury and illness prevention advice from pediatricians with whom they don’t have a good working relationship, say researchers at the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center, the Johns Burns University of Hawaii School of Medicine, and the Hawaii State Health Department. "While it may seem basic, this practical advice could prove life-saving to children whose home and family situations already make them vulnerable to unintentional injury, the leading cause of death of children over one year of age in this country," says the study’s lead author, Catherine Nelson, M.D., M.P.H, a general pediatrics fellow at the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. HAWAII SCHOOL EXPENDITURE REPORTING SYSTEM (HSERS) Fiscal Year 2001-2002 The Hawaii Department of Education (DOE) is a unified statewide school district responsible for providing educational programs and services to over 182,000 students in 279 public and charter schools. The Legislature annually appropriates approximately $1.28 billion in general funds to the DOE, and approximately $61 million in general funds to other state agencies, for expenditures relating to lower education. Standards and Accountability The DOE has made significant progress toward achieving a standards-based educational system with high expectations and increased accountability at all levels. Consistent with the focus on achieving standards and establishing improved accountability, the DOE recognizes that many different audiences are interested in how funds are expended for our public school system. The Legislature stated in Act 199, Session Laws of Hawaii (SLH) 1999, that "accurate and organized educational expenditure reporting is crucial for accountability and school-based decision-making". The DOE agrees with this statement, and has taken major steps to improve its reporting of financial information to the Board of Education, the State Legislature, and the general public. As part of this effort, the DOE has implemented the Hawaii School Expenditure Reporting System (HSERS). True Costs of Public Education The financial information in HSERS portrays the "true costs of public education," including related costs pertaining to education incurred by other state agencies, such as the Hawaii state Departments of Accounting and General Services; Attorney General; Budget and Finance; Health; and Human Services.

    Hawaii Statehood: August 21, 1959
Hawai'i was admitted as the 50th state of the United States of America on August 21, 1959 by proclamation of Dwight D. Eisenhower , President of the U.S. This followed many years of efforts by proponents of statehood to convince the residents of the islands, as well as the citizens of the United States, that Hawai'i should become a state. Admission Day is a state holiday in Hawai'i, observed on the third Friday in August. The other key dates in the process included passage of the Admissions Act by Congress in March of 1959, signed into law on March 18th by the President, and votes for statehood by the residents of Hawai'i in November of 1950 and June of 1959. Following Alaska's admission in January, 1959, a new flag with 49 stars was designed and first flew over Independence Hall in Philadelphia on July 4, 1959. It would be the official flag for only a year. The 50 star flag became the 27th flag on July 4, 1960, and remains the official flag of the United States.

Home page Calendar Announcements Staff Bios ... Handbook Hawai`i's premier children's chorus, Hawai'i Youth Opera Chorus, formerly the Honolulu Children's Opera Chorus, is the longest running and largest youth chorus in Hawai`i. Since 1961, HYOC has provided singers for all Hawaii Opera Theatre productions requiring the participation of children. Their outstanding performances under Nola A. Nahulu , musical director of twelve years, have been of such high caliber that HYOC has been invited to perform nationally, internationally, and throughout the State of Hawai`i. HYOC received the Na Hoku Hanohano (Star of Distinction) award for Religious Album of the Year in 1993. Originally, HYOC existed to provide children parts in opera productions, but over time HYOC grew in stature and developed its own repertoire. Currently, there are over 160 members ranging in age from 5 - 18. The chorus is hosted and is currently housed by the Kawaiaha'o Church. The seven vocal ensembles are comprised of children from 42 public schools and 22 private schools. Today our members represent communities throughout O`ahu. HYOC's musical repertoire encompasses Western European, sacred, secular, Hawaiian, and other ethnic music. Our Mission It is the mission of HYOC to nurture, foster, and develop the performing arts primarily through the medium of choral music, and to serve as an educational and artistic resource for the State of Hawai`i. The Hawai`i Youth Opera Chorus accepts children with vocal potential and a genuine desire to sing in a choral group. HYOC develops their talents through vocal technique, ear training, sight singing, music theory and history.
