Telephone: (202) 225-4527 Independent GAO Report Criticizes Financial Controls in Head Start Program; Says Reforms are Needed to Prevent Financial Abuses that Cheat Children, Taxpayers, and Honest Grantees WASHINGTON, D.C. – The leaders of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce today joined Senate counterparts in calling attention to a new report by the independent Government Accountability Office (GAO) that warns the financial control system in the federal Head Start early childhood program is flawed and failing to prevent multi-million dollar financial abuses that cheat poor children, taxpayers, and law-abiding Head Start operators. “The federal government is spending almost $7 billion a year on Head Start, but an inexcusable share of this money never reaches the children it is meant to serve. This is an injustice and an outrage, and Congress cannot allow it to stand,” House Education and the Workforce Committee Chairman John Boehner (R-OH) said. “There are some bad apples in the Head Start program, and they have been defended by the lobbying community at the expense of the many good ones.

Master of Science in Travel Industry Management, Singapore Program
Introduction to MS Program
Beginning in February 2006 The School of Travel Industry Management (TIM) will offer the Master of Science (MS) degree program in Singapore.
MS Singapore program provides advanced knowledge and skills
The Singapore program is one of the first, if not the first, University of Hawaii degree program to be fully approved to be offered in Asia. The goals and objectives of the program in Singapore are identical to those for the on-campus program. The MS degree provides advanced knowledge and skills for the policy and strategic decision-making levels of analysis. The program schedule is designed so that both regular students and professionals can enroll to further their education in line with their career goals.
A look back at the origins of the TIM School
In the early years of the TIM School, there were many doubters about the new approach. The School was a pioneer in uncharted territory. Industry professionals wanted a more traditional hotel school approach. A few of the TIM faculty also questioned the approach because they came from traditional hotel school backgrounds. The hotel schools at Cornell University and Michigan State often were used as models to support arguments for TIM to become a hotel school. Some of these feelings still exist today.
Has the vision become a reality?

MBA in International Management and the M.A. in Latin American Studies
Building upon the university's unique cultural-environmental setting and its distinctive Latin American role, an integrated interdisciplinary dual degree program leading to the degrees of Master of Business Administration and Master of Arts in Latin American Studies (MBA-MA/LAS) is offered cooperatively by the Robert O. Anderson Graduate Schools of Management and the Latin American Studies Program.
Mission of this Distinctive Professional Career Program
The dual MBA-MA/LAS is designed to provide multi-disciplinary professional education for individuals who seek management careers in business, government, private and governmental foundations, consulting firms, research institutes, and non profit social service organizations, with an emphasis on work in or involving Latin America. Admission Procedure
SEPARATE APPLICATIONS FOR ADMISSIONS SHOULD BE MADE SIMULTANEOUSLY TO THE TWO PROGRAMS. DUAL DEGREE STUDENTS MAY NOT APPLY ELECTRONICALLY.
