"REAL" WITCH
One Halloween I took a ceramic head that I used for storing my hat (you can you Styrofoam ones too). I placed the head on top of my mother's tall CD rack in the living room. Then I took a Mardi-Gras mask and put it on the head. I covered the head with a witch wig and a witch hat. Then I put a black gown to cover the CD rack. I tied a fake stomach (my father used it years ago as part of his costume) underneath the gown and around the rack. For final touches I placed a red blinking light behind the gown to make it look like a beating heart! It was great. Everyone loved my life-size realistic witch. Submitted by: Denise, Florida

How to Make Halloween Fun: Costumes, Treats and Sound Effects (ARA) - Scariness and spookiness are upon us. And we're not talking about opening 401(k) statements. Ghouls and goblins will be running through neighborhoods searching for candy and scares alike. Trick-or-treaters will be heard screaming and screeching while being haunted by neighborhood houses decorated for one of the most anticipated holidays for children Halloween.
Halloween's history has changed over the years. Centuries ago, Halloween night was known as "devil's night." Superstitious people associated this day with death and supernatural happenings, such as bad omens, black cats, and bats or spiders. Halloween night was known to be one filled with vandalism as well.

Dress your child in green sweats. Tie a red bandana around her neck. Have her wear a red baseball cap. For the shell, cut a circle out of poster board and cut a couple holes in it to loop a ribbon thru to tie it. Then, use the spray foam insulation to cover the poster board. Next, paint over with green and brown spray paint. Voila Franklin! I really like the ideas of sweats ''dressed up.'' The kids are so much more comfortable in them and they actually leave them on.

    How did Halloween start?
Halloween. Just the name of this holiday brings images of ghosts, witches, and goblins to mind. Yet it is the favorite holiday for many kids. Where did Halloween come from? Halloween was first celebrated by the Celts, who lived in Scotland and Ireland in ancient times. The Celts held a special festival to celebrate Samhain, the god of the dead. The day they chose was their New Year’s Eve, October 31 on our calendar. They believed the souls of the dead returned to visit their homes on this one night of the year to try to find another body to inhabit.
