Här har man bara hunnit lägga de första grundstenarna till den nya skolan. Sedan 1994 finns en liten skola i centrala Haiti, som heter ”l’école primaire mixte d’Olof Palme” . Skolans grundare är Vilvert Rosier, som är en stor beundrare av Olof Palme. Undervisningen bedrevs från början i en mycket enkel lokal av spjälor och palmblad. Ett hundratal elever fick plats, i två olika klasser. 1997 påbörjade vi ett stödarbete i Sverige för skolan, med basen förlagd på arbetarrörelseägda Medlefors Folkhögskola i Skellefteå. Det senaste året har ytterligare två skolor i Skellefteå kommun dragits in i stödarbetet:

Aktuelle Situation Land und Leute Geschichte Ausblick Aktuelle Situation Seit 1994 ist der Präsident Haitis Jean-Bertrand Aristide, dem von der USA ins Amt verholfen wurde, aber er soll zurücktreten und es soll ein Mitglied des Obersten Gerichtshof provisorischer Staatschef werden. Haiti hat heute kein Militär mehr, da sich viele Soldaten den Rebellen (um ihren Führer Guy Philippe) angeschlossen haben. Es gibt zwar noch Polizisten, die Präsident Aristide stärken möchte, aber die Rebellen kontrollieren nun die Hälfte des Landes und wollen bald auch die Hauptstadt einnehmen. Ihr Führer sagt, schon bald sei ganz Haiti von den Rebellen kontrolliert und dass sie nur die Vertreibung Aristides als Ziel hätten und keine Politischen Ziele. Aristide wiederum forderte Hilfe der Internationalen Gemeinschaft, worauf 50 US Soldaten ins Land gesandt wurden, die die amerikanische Botschaft in Port-au-Prince verteidigen sollen. Wegen des Bürgerkrieges haben Deutschland, Frankreich und Großbritannien schon ihre Bürger zurückgezogen, aber immer noch plündern brutale Banden und Einwohner das Land. Nach Angaben der Welthungerhilfe gibt es aber noch keine Versorgungskrise, was allerdings bald der Fall sein könne. Inzwischen hat Aristide das Land verlassen. Amerikanische und französische Truppen sollen die Ruhe im Land wieder herstellen.
